Chapter 2
After the report ended, I quietly gave a few instructions to my assistant, then raised a smile.
“The annual company raffle is about to begin! Let’s see what big surprise Mr. Lukas Clark will have in store for everyone this year.”
Amid the applause, Lukas Clark straightened his suit and walked up with a smile.
After drawing a few regular prizes, it was time for the grand prize prepared for all the female employees.
In previous years, the prizes were practical items–things like Dyson hair dryers, cosmetic
gift boxes, or the latest designer handbags.
But this year, when Lukas drew a red card, his smile suddenly froze.
He held the microphone, hesitating to announce it, and even glanced uncertainly at me.
“What could be the big prize that has Mr. Lukas Clark so surprised?”
I took the card from his hand, my smile bright as I read aloud the words on it.
“Mr. Lukas Clark has generously decided to give every female employee in the company a Van Cleef & Arpels high–end jade necklace!”
Seeing Lukas’s face darken, I smiled even more brightly.
“Farah White has contributed so much to the company, and every other female employee here is hardworking and excellent. Mr. Clark certainly wouldn’t play favorites.”
As soon as my words finished, the doors to the venue opened.
Dozens of female sales staff in matching uniforms filed in, each holding an open jewelry box, and one by one, they handed them to the female employees with bright smiles.
Each necklace was valued at over 200,000.
There were over three hundred female employees in the audience.

A collective gasp swept through the room, followed by wild applause and waves of gratitude
toward me.
I smiled, “Don’t thank me, thank Farah White. She set the tone for tonight’s event.”
The crowd, all too sharp, immediately understood the underlying message.
A moment later, countless mocking and contemptuous glances focused on Farah White sitting in the audience.
Farah’s face turned ashen, and she ran off, wiping away tears.
On the stage, Lukas Clark, caught in an awkward position, couldn’t find the words to refuse.
He could only grit his teeth and sign a long payment order for the store manager.
By the time the event ended, it was already late at night.
Leaving behind the spotlight and the crowd’s gaze, I ignored Lukas’s pleading eyes and, pulling my fox fur coat tightly around me, headed straight for the parking lot.
When I opened the door of my Maybach, I was hit by the sickly sweet scent of perfume.
Seeing the chip crumbs on the passenger seat and the cup of milk tea with a lipstick mark beside it, my brows furrowed tightly.
Seeing my expression darken, Lukas quickly explained.
“Farah White lives over thirty kilometers from here. She couldn’t take the subway in her
dress, so I went to pick her up.”
“She was hungry, so she had a snack.”
“We’re completely innocent, just a superior–subordinate relationship.”
“Don’t be angry. I’ll have the car cleaned tomorrow.”
I shot him a half–smile.
“You know I’m a clean freak and never eat or drink in the car, yet you allowed Farah White

to do so.”
“That jade necklace I custom–ordered, with my initials on it, and you just gave it to her without asking.”
“In your heart, Lukas Clark, has Farah White already taken priority over me?”
Lukas opened his mouth, clearly wanting to explain.
it just then, his phone rang.
The caller ID showed it was Farah White.
Without hesitation, Lukas answered the phone in front of me.
“Farah, where are you?”
Why haven’t you come back from the event? Why aren’t you answering my calls?”
On the other end, Farah’s soft, crying voice came through.
“Mr. Clark, it’s all my fault for making Ms. Davis angry. I have no face to come back…”
“I tried to return the necklace, but the store said it’s a custom item and won’t allow returns.”
“I was sitting by the roadside crying, and some punks started bothering me. I had to hide inside the store, but they’re still outside, blocking me.”
“I’m so scared, Mr. Clark, what should I do?”
Her voice trembled more and more, sounding like a scared little animal, shivering from
fear.
Hearing her cry, Lukas’s brows furrowed in concern, and worry appeared on his face.
“Where are you now? I’ll come right away.”
He hung up and immediately turned.
