After finishing, Dandan asked for photos. Zark, using his phone, took several pictures of Ashley’s smile.
Time flew. As dusk fell, the grill yielded delicious aromas, and the tents lit up.
Zark said, “Seafood?”
“Mm–hmm.”
He offered her some skewers. Many were camping. The tents weren’t cramped, creating a festive atmosphere. A bonfire was planned for later.
“Attending?” Zark asked.
“I don’t mind either way.”
His phone rang–Ethan. He stepped away to answer.
Ethan said, “Drinks later?”
“No, you go

ahead.”
Dandan ran over, holding a skewer.“Uncle, chicken wings!”
Zark took it. Ethan overheard.“You’re eating barbecue?”
“Mm–hmm.”
“Where?”
“Outside. We’re camping.” He added flatly, “We’re camping.”
“Damn! It snowed a lot. A snowball fight and bonfire would be perfect! Why didn’t I think of that?!” He paused.“Wait, you went camping without us?!”
Zark said flatly, “Next time.”
“Wait, that Auntie’s with you, right? Where are you? I’ll come over. No, I’ll get Chase and the others…”
Zark hung up.
