Chapter 8
Caitlin’s POV:
The
warm sun kissed my skin as I stretched out on the sandy beach of the Bloodwalker.
Pack’s territory.
The sound of waves rolling in and the sight of young wolves with lean, athletic bodies darting through the surf filled me with a rare sense of peace.
It was cozy.. a moment of calm I hadn’t felt in what seemed like forever.
Then a shadow fell over me, blocking the sunlight.
I squinted, shielding my eyes from the glare, and saw Blake standing there.
Without a word, he bent down, slid a pair of sunglasses onto my face, and frowned.
“Why are you wasting your time watching them? You should be looking at me instead,” he said, his tone tinged with jealousy.
I sighed and rolled my eyes, refusing to give him the satisfaction of a response.
Blake, the fierce and commanding Alpha everyone else feared, crouched down beside me, his sharp features softened by concern.
“How are your wounds?” he asked gently. “Should you even be near the water yet?”
I touched my stomach instinctively and replied, “I’m fine now.”
But the simple question brought back memories I worked hard to suppress.
Memories of the baby I didn’t even know I was carrying until just before the final mission.. a mission I couldn’t abandon.
The safety of the pack had been on the line, and there was no room for hesitation, not even

for the life growing inside me.
If Lucy hadn’t betrayed me, maybe my child would still be alive.
He had been so peaceful, so quiet.
I never suffered from morning sickness, and the only real pain I endured was the heartbreak of William’s betrayal.
The mate bond’s agony had been unbearable when he cheated on me.
Yet even that paled in comparison to the pain of losing my baby in the explosion.
But that was the past.
Now, with a new identity and a new home in the Bloodwalker Pack, I was determined to leave heartbreak behind and focus on my freedom.
Unfortunately, Blake seemed intent on complicating things.
As if to prove my point, he stood up and sent a cold, warning glare toward a group of young wolves who had been glancing my way.
They quickly looked down and scattered, their confidence deflating under his Alpha
authority.
I pulled off the sunglasses and glared at him.
“What are you doing here? Don’t you have Alpha responsibilities to keep you busy?”
“Even Alphas need vacations,” he replied with a smirk, settling down beside me. His dark eyes sparkled with mischief. “How else am I supposed to have time to chase the love of my life?”
I snorted, unimpressed. “Shouldn’t you be tracking down those escaped vampires?”
He waved dismissively. “I’ve got people for that. My priority right now is finding a Luna–for myself and the pack.”

I rolled my eyes again and leaned back, pretending to fall asleep in the hope that he would drop the subject.
But Blake wasn’t one to give up easily. He leaned closer, his voice low and teasing. “Caitlin, you can’t keep running from me.”
Silence settled between us, broken only by the soothing rhythm of the waves and the whisper of the wind.
After a while, Blake’s tone shifted, becoming serious.
“I just got word. William knows about your faked death.”
I sighed, my eyes still closed. “He was bound to figure it out eventually. But I’m in another. pack now. He can’t do anything to me.”
Blake’s voice softened. “Don’t worry. I’ll handle it.”
His words, spoken with such quiet certainty, eased the knot of anxiety that had begun to
tighten in my chest.
I let myself drift off to sleep.
Half–asleep, I felt strong arms lift nte. His familiar scent enveloped me, and for the first time in years, I felt truly safe.
In my
dreams, I went back to when I first met Blake.
We had been classmates in college, and I’d secretly nursed a crush on him.
But Blake had been the school’s golden boy, always surrounded by admirers, and I thought
he never noticed me.
Then he transferred to Alpha training, and I met William.
My crush on Blake faded as William entered my life.
Years later, after William’s betrayal broke me, I’d run to a bar to drown my sorrows.

That’s where I ran into Blake again.
He had driven me home that night, and in the quiet of the car, he confessed he had liked.
me back in college.
He explained that pack politics had held him back then, but now he could offer me the
future I deserved.
But I wasn’t ready to hear it. I still held out hope for William.. a hope that shattered completely when Lucy’s betrayal came to light.
From the moment she joined the army, Lucy had been under suspicion.
I just never thought William would be so easily swayed by her manipulations.
He claimed to love me, but his actions proved otherwise.
A man like that wasn’t worth my time.
When I woke up, the soothing sound of waves was gone, replaced by the dim quiet of
evening.
A soft kiss brushed my cheek.
“Blake,” I muttered, still half–asleep, “I haven’t agreed to anything with you-”
A deep, unfamiliar voice interrupted me.
“It’s me, wife.”
My eyes snapped open.
Standing at the foot of my bed was William.
His face was pale, his eyes wide with relief and something like desperation.
“I knew you weren’t dead,” he said, his voice trembling. “Come with me. I’ll take you home.”
