Chapter 12
Carissa didn’t want to continue entangling with him anymore, so she decided to lay out the words directly and make it clear.
“Warren, I don’t care who you love now, and I don’t care who you want to help. All I know is that I no
longer love you, and I can’t marry a divorced man. Don’t bother me anymore in the future!”
After saying that, she disregarded Warren’s humble pleas and hung up the phone, also adding him
to her blacklist.
Standing beside her, Emma saw the situation and gave her a thumbs up in approval.
“Good job, Carie! That’s how you should deal with a scumbag!”
“By the way, Carie, I have to go to the office for a while. Melvin Trevino will come to pick you up and
take you to my house. If you need anything, just tell him…”
Upon hearing the familiar name, Carissa’s face changed and she looked at her with caution.
“Melvin!? Emma, how come you were with him again?”
Emma did not notice her strangeness and naturally explained.
“I had been studying abroad before, and now I just opened a studio in Dimborough. It happens that
Melvin is doing well here, so of course I don’t need to waste any free resources!”
Carissa furrowed her brows, her face filled with anxiety.
“Emma! You must not let him deceive you again. He was never worthy of you. Back then, he…”
A hint of embarrassment flashed across Carissa’s face as she clenched her teeth and continued
speaking.
“He had confessed his feelings to me before. I was afraid it would affect your exam mood, so I
planned to tell you after the exam. Later, I heard that you two broke up, so I never mentioned it
again. He is not a good person! You shouldn’t be with him!”
Emma stood frozen in place, her eyes wide open in disbelief, as if struck by lightning.
“What! You were the person Melvin liked back then?”
She didn’t know what she thought of, and her expression suddenly became somewhat unnatural.
“Actually, Melvin wasn’t a scumbag. He was actually a pretty decent person. You might have misunderstood him a bit…”
Carissa finally understood the meaning of the phrase “the onlooker sees more of the game than the
players.”

. She interrupted her with frustration, “Emma! Wake up! Just now you were advising me to stay away from that jerk, and now you can’t seem to understand it yourself? You deserve a better man, there’s no need to waste your time and emotions on him!”
>
Emma smiled a little shyly.
“Carie, is there a possibility that Melvin is my brother? The kind of relationship with blood ties…”
No sooner had the words fallen from her mouth than a deep voice sounded behind her.
“Carissa, long time no see.”
It has been several years since we last met, and Melvin has become even more handsome in
appearance and his personality has become more steady.
Carissa sat in the passenger seat, awkwardly holding a large bouquet of tulips, as she looked out of
the window.
Five minutes ago, she finally found out the true relationship between the two of them.
Melvin and Emma were twins. Their parents divorced early on, and each of them formed a new
family with a sibling.
Although they did not live together, they have always stayed in touch and later attended the same
university together.
Just because their family relationship was complicated, not many people knew the true nature of their relationship.
This led Carissa to mistakenly believe that they were a couple.
When she found out the truth, she wished she could just find a hole to crawl into.
If she had been scolded indiscriminately and blocked without listening to her explanation when she
confessed to someone, she would probably have hated that person to death…
Unfortunately, Emma, completely unaware, handed her over to Melvin and turned around and left.
Carissa stared blankly at the passing streetlight outside the window.
“How did you hurt your neck?”
Melvin’s voice interrupted her train of thought.
Carissa gave a slight start and instinctively touched the scabbed wound on the side of her neck.
Vaguely explained, “Accidentally scratched it.”
She didn’t want to mention the kidnapping, and Melvin was also tactful. After confirming that she
had seen a doctor, he didn’t ask any further.

⚫ And Carissa also quietly breathed a sigh of relief.
After arriving at Emma’s place, Melvin naturally crouched down and handed her a pair of slippers. A brand new pink bunny was placed by her feet.
“Just bought it, you can wear it for now, and if you don’t like it, I’ll buy you a new one.”
Carissa blushed and then changed into slippers after saying thank you.
Melvin poured her a cup of hot water and showed her around the house again. Perhaps sensing her unease, a hint of sadness flickered in the man’s eyes.
He took the initiative to speak and said, “It’s getting late. You should rest early tonight. If you need anything, I will accompany you to buy it tomorrow.”
Watching Melvin’s back, Carissa mustered up the courage to call out to him.
“Melvin!”
