Chapter 26
As soon as these words were spoken, everyone in the ward froze.
His several brothers looked at each other in astonishment and confusion.
“Warren, have you gone mad? You agreed to such a demand?”
However, Warren ignored them and stubbornly stared at Carissa’s figure.
“Carie, I promised you that I was willing to wait for you and Melvin…”
He paused, and the following words seemed difficult to utter, almost squeezed out from between
his teeth.
‘Getting married and then divorced, as long as you can come back, I am willing to wait for you
forever.”
What were you doing when you should have been so affectionate now?
It was really disgusting.
Carissa walked out of the ward without hesitation.
Since he was willing to wait, then let him wait. Anyway, even if they divorced, she wouldn’t go back
to him.

One year later, at the company celebration banquet, Melvin proposed to Carissa in front of
everyone.
He was wearing a suit, kneeling on one knee, holding up a diamond ring.
The diamond heart he personally carved shone brightly under the lights.
“Carie, I loved you, would you marry me?”
It was Carissa who proposed to him, but he was the one who got so excited that his eyes turned red.
Carissa smiled as she wiped away the tear from his face and kissed his lips amidst the cheers of
everyone.
“I was willing to marry you, Melvin.”
That day, Melvin was like a victorious general, excitedly lifting up his beloved.
All the friends who were present at the scene gathered around and kept cheering and screaming.
Carissa hugged his neck, her face blushing shyly.

When Warren, who was far away in Cashary, heard the news, he was socializing with several bosses
in a private room.
He lost his long–established job because of the incident caused by Madilyn’s uproar.
Now he can only start over from scratch. For the sake of a contract, he was forced to drink by several
bosses in turn.
I had to get drunk almost every day before I could go home.
However, this time, no one would wait for him to come home late at night and make a bowl of sobering soup for him.
Warren looked bewildered and at a loss as he asked, “Mr. Simmons, what did you just say?”
Mr. Simmons and Melvin were longtime friends who knew each other’s business. Today, they deliberately wanted to vent their anger on Carissa.
He smiled and said, “I must say, Mr. Melvin Trevino from Dimborough successfully proposed to his girlfriend today. He was so excited that tears streamed down his face. Let’s raise a glass to wish them a long and happy life together!”
Warren didn’t hear anything except for the sentence that Melvin’s proposal was successful.
He numbly lifted the glass and poured the entire shot of strong liquor into his mouth.
The next second, he suddenly spurted out a mouthful of blood and fell down stiffly.
When he woke up again, he was already lying on a hospital bed.
Warren cut off all contact with the friends who had spoken ill of Carissa.
The only one who stayed by his side was Edwin Kline, who had grown up with him since childhood
“Are you awake? Do you want to drink some water?”
Warren shook his head blankly.
Edwin looked at his dull expression, and there was an indescribable feeling in his heart.
From the beginning, he had warned Warren not to associate with Madilyn anymore and to live his
own life.
But Warren still didn’t listen to him in the end…
Although Edwin knew deep down that he had brought himself to his current situation.
But I watched helplessly as my brother, whom I had seen grow up since childhood, deteriorated into

such a frail and skeletal appearance in just a year.
He couldn’t help but sigh and earnestly advised.
“Warren, just forget about Carissa. All those things she said back then were just playing with you…”
Warren’s mouth curved into a bitter smile.
How could he not understand that Carissa was deliberately disgusting him?
But he had no other choice, he had to seize this one and only opportunity in order to give himself a glimmer of hope to survive.
Midnight reminiscence, he often recalled the days he spent with Carissa.
f he hadn’t been foolish back then, perhaps they would have already gotten married by now and had a lovely baby…
Unfortunately, there has never been an “if” in the world.
