Chapter 24
For the convenience of work, Greta rented a top–floor apartment.
The next day, another family moved in next door to her.
It was Kayson.
During this month in Aelhedge, Greta often bumped into him in various places.
Next to the supermarket shelves, in front of the restaurant, in a corner of the park…
In his capacity, it was not suitable for him to appear in these places.
Greta knew that he had been following her.
Occasionally, when they bumped into each other, they would exchange a few greetings like ordinary friends.
At other times, he would silently follow behind, like a shadow.
Slowly, Greta, who was immersed in her own little world, also got used to it, treating it as if she had bought a free security guard without spending any money.
After becoming neighbors, the opportunities to meet increased gradually, and the smile on Kayson’s face became brighter and brighter.
He would occasionally take the initiative to invite, asking if we wanted to take a walk together, have
dinner together, or go on a trip together.
Greta always found excuses to refuse.
Every time he hears the word “sorry“, his eyes dim a lot.
She thought countless times that after refusing this time, there would be no next time.
The next day, when they met again, he had recovered and cheerfully greeted her.
Watching him with his eager expression, out of nowhere, Greta was reminded of those days when he was together with Luella during their university years.
It was also like now, afraid of making the other person angry and refusing, trying every means to
please, to the point of disregarding oneself.
However, she was not Luella, so she did not enjoy these good things with a clear conscience, nor did she intentionally tease him with strange quirks to highlight her charm.
She just wanted to live each day to the fullest and enjoy life, that’s all.
Time passed day by day, from spring to summer, and then to early winter in late autumn.

This project, which lasted for nearly a year, has also reached its final stage.
The deadline of the contract happened to be on Greta’s twenty–fifth birthday.
She booked a flight back to Fieldhurst for that day.
The day before she left, she packed her luggage until dawn and suddenly noticed that it was snowing lightly outside the window.
When the clock pointed to twelve, the door was knocked.
As soon as she opened it, she saw Kayson holding a cake.
He was clearly smiling and saying “happy birthday“, but Greta could still sense some sadness in
him.
She hesitated for a moment, then quickly regained her usual indifference and politely thanked him.
After the candle was lit, she clasped her hands together and made a wish.
When she opened her eyes again, she saw Kayson’s eyes, faintly filled with anticipation.
“What wish did you make?”
“Just like last year.”
The topic came to an abrupt end.
Kayson remembered what had happened on her birthday last year, and the smile on her lips slowly
turned bitter.
Greta lowered her gaze, avoiding his gaze.
The atmosphere froze like this.
After a long time, she heard Kayson ask a very strange question.
“Greta, what was the sentence you said when you left last year, when you saw me off from hom
didn’t hear it clearly at that time.”
What is it?
Greta actually couldn’t remember either.
Those memories, carrying a damp and cold breath, which made it difficult for her to look back, have actually been washed away by time and become mottled and blurred.
‘All she remembered were vivid and bright days.
The scenes that made her feel warm whenever she thought about them are still vivid in her mind.

And as the new year approached, she hoped that all the people she would meet and all the things that would happen would be fulfilling.
So she made up two sentences on the spot as a response.
“Wish you happiness.”
“I also wish myself happiness.”
