Chapter 9
On the last day, Ruth tore off the last page of the calendar.
The phone that was placed aside suddenly rang
Opening it, I saw a photo that Anne had sent a few minutes ago.
The photo shows the pocket watch that her deceased grandmother had given to her.
“Madam, a few days ago I saw this watch of yours at the Todd family and thought it looked nice, so I took it without thinking. Now I’m tired of playing with it, so please come and take it yourself.”
Ruth’s temper flared up in an instant, and she quickly glanced at the address provided at the end of the message before rushing over.
The car stopped by Central Bridge.
Anne stood by the river, holding up the watch high, with a half–smile on her face.
“Ruth, actually, I called you here today just to verify and see who Garrett really liked more between you and me.”
Upon hearing this, Ruth felt a slight sense of unease.
But looking at the swinging pocket watch in the air, she didn’t have time to think too much and was not interested in getting entangled with her. She stepped forward and reached out to snatch the pocket watch.
Her cold attitude made Anne feel very unhappy.
She hated seeing Ruth’s indifferent and haughty expression!
Isn’t it all because of relying on Garrett that we have everything now? What’s there to be arrogant
about!
Jealousy and resentment surged up in Anne’s heart, and she directly threw her pocket watch into
the river.
Her action directly angered Ruth, who couldn’t help but slap her in the face when she saw her
provocative expression.
“Anne!”
Anne covered her face and was about to say something when she caught a glimpse of a speeding car
approaching. In a hurry, she pushed her into the river.
The moment Garrett got out of the car, Anne also followed closely and jumped into the river
together.
The cold and bitter river water surged in from all directions, dragging Ruth down relentlessly.
She searched in her memory for the place where the pocket watch had fallen, and finally found it in the river. Before her body ran out of oxygen, she struggled to swim upstream, but was held back by the struggling Anne.
She couldn’t exert any strength in her body, and her mind was becoming increasingly dizzy, with her consciousness gradually fading.
Just as the two individuals were about to sink, there was a loud splash.
Garrett jumped down!
Before her consciousness completely faded, Ruth slowly opened her eyes, feeling a bit blurry.
I watched him without hesitation as he swam towards Anne.
I watched him save Anne and bring her ashore.
I watched helplessly as he anxiously held the already unconscious Anne, calling her name over and
over again.
I never looked at her from beginning to end.
In a daze, tears streamed down Ruth’s face, and then, with the last ounce of strength, she struggled
to swim to the surface!
The afternoon sun shone on her wet body.
She crawled out, breathing in fresh air with big gulps, and then stood up.
Watching the man performing artificial respiration for Anne by the bridge, Ruth tightly held the pocket watch in her hand and walked slowly towards the roadside.
As the two were about to pass each other, Garrett belatedly called out to her, “Ruth, can you swim? I’ll save Anne first, are you okay?”
Ruth paused for a moment and said, “It’s nothing.”
Watching Anne slowly open her eyes, Garrett finally breathed a sigh of relief and walked over to grasp Ruth’s hand. “Ruth, I’ll take you back…”
The words were not finished yet when suddenly a voice with a sobbing tone came from behind,
Anne.
“Garrett, my head hurts…”
Garrett hesitated for a moment, and in that moment, Ruth cleared her throat and said hoarsely, “You go take care of her, don’t worry about me.”
Garrett quickly said, “After I take her to the hospital, I will come back immediately to accompany you.”
From an angle he couldn’t see, Ruth shook her head with red eyes.
Her meaning was that from now on, he didn’t have to worry about her anymore.
After all, starting from today, they completely severed their marital status and had no connection
anymore.
Garrett, the torment that lasted for seven years, has finally come to an end.
I let go.
As you wished, I ran into someone else’s arms.
After speaking, she staggered and walked step by step to the side of the road, and opened the car
door.
For some reason, Garrett suddenly felt a little anxious when he saw her leaving.
“Ruth!”
He instinctively called out her name, but she ignored him.
He could only watch as the car drove out of sight.
After arriving home, the butler, who had received the news in advance, had prepared ginger soup and also brought a complete set of diamond jewelry.
“Madam, this is what the gentleman instructed me to prepare for you. He said he would come back tonight to have dinner with you.”
They were divorced, and they were still having a meal?
tup
She shook her head, got up and went upstairs to change into a new outfit, while tidying up her remaining luggage.
After carrying a pile of luggage downstairs, she ignored the shocked inquiry from the butler and hoarsely said, “When Garrett comes back, make sure he takes a good look at the document he signed a month ago.”
“Tell him that he, Garrett, has completely wrapped up in my script for Ruth.”
After saying that, she walked out of the door, took off the ring on her hand, and threw it into the trash can at the doorstep. Then, she carried her luggage and got into the car.
The dark purple sports car raced along the south, hidden in the darkness of the night.
