Chapter 21
After saying that, Ruth didn’t look at Garrett again and got into the car with Liam.
From the rearview mirror, Liam could clearly see the scene where Garrett completely broke down and collapsed on the ground, and for a moment, he couldn’t suppress the smile at the corner of his
mouth.
But because he had to play the role of a well–behaved pretty boy in front of Ruth, he could only turn his head to the side and smirk.
When he finished laughing and turned around with an adjusted expression, he collided straight into a pair of eyes filled with suspicion.
“Why hide when you can openly laugh with schadenfreude?”
Oh no, it seems like I’ve been caught.
After realizing this, the smile on Liam’s face froze for a moment, but quickly returned to normal.
He grabbed Ruth’s arm and started acting coquettishly, just like before, trying to gently cover up what had just happened.
“I laughed when I heard Ruth say that we were in love with each other, there was no schadenfreude.”
His ability to change his face rapidly surprised Ruth.
She reached out her hand, lifted his chin, and forced him to meet her gaze.
“When we made the agreement initially, I remember telling you that I don’t like deceptive behavior with flowery words. Giving you another chance, it’s better for you to tell the truth, okay?”
Although her tone was gentle, Liam could sense that her mood wasn’t particularly good at the
moment.
So he put away the smile on his face and honestly told the truth.
“It was somewhat gloating.”
Seeing the fish bite the hook, Ruth’s eyelashes trembled lightly as she asked the next question.
“Do you know who he was?”
Upon hearing this question, Liam’s fingers involuntarily tightened by a fraction, and he did not immediately respond.
To be precise, he didn’t know how to answer.
After all, he had always been seen as a trouble–free and obedient figure in Ruth’s heart.
She said not to let him inquire about who her husband was, so he pretended not to know the sad
she wanted him to stay well in the villa and not let anyone who shouldn’t know his identity find out. so he complied with her and hid like a treasure in a golden house
In this not–so–pure emotion, he disguised and concealed his true self just to attract her attention, stay by her side, and wait for an opportunity
A suitable, opportune moment to seize an opportunity.
In theory, now that his long–cherished wish has been fulfilled, Liam should have confessed everything
But he was also worried that she had been hurt too much in her previous relationship and wouldn’t be able to accept the fact that he had also deceived her. He was afraid that she would leave him after knowing the truth.
So he kept this secret hidden and hidden.
Looking at the current situation, it seems that it can no longer be concealed.
Especially her particularly serious gaze, which she now looked at him with, made Liam feel
extremely uncomfortable and his heart burned like fire.
In his mind, there were two little people constantly arguing. One wanted him to tell new lies to
cover up the old ones, while the other wanted him to stop acting and reveal the truth.
He didn’t know whose advice to follow and was in a dilemma.
He finally regained some clarity when his constantly trembling hand, due to excessive nervousness, was held by another warm and slender hand.
And a voice, filled with infinite power, fell upon my ears in the midst of tranquility.
“We were already engaged, and there were some secrets. Don’t you plan on sharing them with me,
Liam?”
One sentence, and all the voices that troubled him disappeared completely.
Liam finally mustered the courage to lift his head and met that gaze head–on.
And in his eyes, there was no longer the deliberate performance of being obedient and docile as
before.
Only endless determination, and fleeting hesitation.
He didn’t want to deceive her anymore.
At least for this moment, let him be himself.
