When Cameron stepped into the dining room, he was caught off guard by the mysterious, almost conspiratorial glances from the housekeeper.
It puzzled him. He’d been keeping a low profile lately, staying out of trouble and certainly not shining with the same brilliance he had back in his more flamboyant days. He definitely shouldn’t have been the center of
attention.
He studied the housekeeper closely and noticed an undeniable look of sympathy in her eyes.
“Come here,” he commanded, his voice carrying a chill.
She approached, and Cameron furrowed his brow, asking, “What’s going on? Why are you looking at me like that?”
The housekeeper hesitated, then finally spoke up, “Sir, haven’t you seen today’s trending news?”
Cameron, not particularly interested, replied, “I’ve never cared for the chaos and gossip online.”
But the housekeeper’s excitement was unmistakable, “Sir, today’s buzz is about our former Mrs. Dawson.”
Cameron paused, “Nathalie?”
Without another thought, he quickly pulled out his phone.
Just as he was about to unlock it, the housekeeper placed her hand over the screen. “Sir, you might not want to see it. I’m worried it’ll upset you…”
“Move your hand,” Cameron ordered.
Reluctantly, she stepped aside.
As Cameron swiped his phone to life and pulled up the webpage, the first thing that greeted him was a photo of Nathan and Nathalie’s wedding.
Nathan, known for his cold, commanding presence, had transformed into a tender soul beside Nathalie, smiling with bright, kind eyes that exuded warmth and harmlessness.
He leaned towards Nathalie, their faces almost touching. Nathalie, dressed in a matching outfit with Nathan and adorned with exquisite jewelry, radiated elegance and grace–a picture of serene happiness.
In that moment, Cameron recalled a saying: Love is like tending to a flower; what blooms depends on how one is nurtured by their partner.
Nathalie, under Nathan’s care, must have blossomed so beautifully.
His heart felt as though someone had scooped out a piece with a shovel; he couldn’t quite place what was missing, but an emptiness lingered inside, impossible to fill.
“Sir, please don’t be upset…” the housekeeper tried to comfort him.
Cameron looked at her, perplexed by her pity, “Why would I be upset?”
The housekeeper, lacking tact, blurted out, “The former Mrs. Dawson was gentle and beautiful, treating you so well; she was perfect. Sir, you lost her and ended up with someone neither beautiful nor kind, leading to your family’s downfall and jeopardizing your future. We thought you’d come to your senses, end things with the current Mrs. Dawson, and win back the former one. But now that she’s found such a good place for herself, she won’t look back. It’s a shame you can’t rekindle that old flame…”
Cameron’s handsome face flushed with embarrassment and anger.
“Do you all talk about me like this behind my back?”
The housekeeper, flustered, replied, “Sir, it’s not just me. Everyone at the Dawson Estate feels the same. We’re just stating the obvious. The current Mrs. Dawson, with your favor, has a fiery temper, treating us with insults

and aggression. We’ve had enough of her. It’s baffling how she’s got you under her spell.”
Cameron was at a loss for words.
“Aren’t you worried I’ll fire you?”
The housekeeper raised her head with a bold, almost tragic resolve, “Sir, the Dawson Estate is already in decline. Our wages have been delayed for months. If you let us go, we’d be relieved. We’re only hanging on out of loyalty.”
