Chapter 7
She then pretended to feel wronged, trying to appear understanding.
“James, do you care about this?”
“If you do, I can go out and clear things up…”
Jessica intentionally reddened her eyes, pretending to hesitate as she headed out to tell others. Sure enough, a few seconds later, James stopped her.
“No need.”
Jessica smiled triumphantly.
She had long anticipated James’s thoughts.
James had always been someone who disliked publicity. If he insisted on clarifying things, it would only make him lose face.
So, before Amy’s allergy, she immediately arranged for reporters to interview.
She knew that if James was willing to mobilize the city’s medical resources for Amy’s treatment, the public opinion would stir.
At that point, she would become the well–known Mrs. Dean.
Even if Lily had a marriage certificate, who would believe it? She could later hire some online influencers to claim that Lily was the mistress.
Her mother and daughter could just leave.
Jessica repeatedly refreshed her phone’s trending searches, and every post was about James, the domineering CEO, doing everything he could to save his daughter.
She felt that this bold move was the right one.
Jessica pretended to be worried. “James, what’s wrong? You look distracted. Can I help share your burden?”
James shook his head and sighed helplessly.
“I just heard from the nurse that Sophia is also in the hospital, and she’s in an emergency.”
“But I can’t get through to Lily on the phone.”
That afternoon.
James could no longer sit still.
“I need to go back and check on Lily and Sophia. If it’s really an emergency, Sophia must be terrified…”
Before he could finish speaking, a small arm wrapped around his thigh.
“Daddy, don’t leave Amy!”
Amy had just been woken up and looked at James with a smile. When she heard he was leaving, Jessica immediately made eye

contact with her.
She understood in an instant and started crying loudly, hugging his leg and refusing to let go.
Jessica pretended to be understanding. “Amy, be good, daddy has something to do. Let go of daddy, okay?”
Amy shook her head violently. “No, Amy has to have daddy with her! Or Amy won’t take the medicine…”
James frowned deeply, clearly conflicted.
His assistant comforted him, “Mr. Dean, don’t worry too much. Your wife loves you so much. Even when you were abroad for three years, she willingly raised your daughter alone, waiting for you to come back day and night. How many people have that kind of resilience and determination?”
“It’s just that you didn’t answer her call. She’s probably just upset for a few days. Once she knows the truth, she’ll forgive you.”
James felt this made sense and his brow relaxed. He nodded with a smile.
“That’s right, Lily loves Amy so much. She must be waiting for me at home with Sophia.”
“She went to great lengths to marry me, filling the entire study with diaries of her secret crush on me.”
“Where else could she be? I’ve just been so busy these days that I’ve been overthinking.”
James sat down to rest with relief.
“I’ll go back and spend time with them once Amy is discharged.”
A week later.
After Sophia and I landed, we headed straight to my father’s place.
He had had enough of living in Spain and suddenly decided to move to the Pacific side to enjoy the sea and the peaceful lifestyle there, so he settled down there.
He said to me, “Daughter, your dad will always be your backup. No matter what happens, I’ll have your back.”
