Chapter 8
When my dad saw me and Sophia, he was so surprised he couldn’t close his mouth for a while.
“Grandpa!”
“Sophia, my dear, did you miss Grandpa?”
“Of course, Mom said we’ll be living at Grandpa’s house, eating and drinking for free.”
Grandfather and granddaughter laughed heartily.
That night, after putting Sophia to sleep, my dad, with a serious expression, asked me, “Lily, it’s not convenient to talk on the phone, but now you can tell me what’s going on with you and James?”
I told him the whole story.
Finally, I bitterly smiled and said.
“Dad, we were stubborn back then, and we made a mistake.”
“James never really liked me, forcing him is futile. I’ve tried, I’ve worked hard, but if his heart isn’t with me, then I’ll just let it
be.”
“Anyway, I’m good at my job. You can get me a company here to manage, and I’ll make a million in a year. I won’t have to worry about raising Sophia.”
My dad sighed heavily for a long time.
“It shouldn’t have turned out like this.”
“Back then, I tested it. James definitely liked you. How did it end up like this?”
Looking at Sophia’s sleeping face, I smiled.
Maybe he did once have sincere feelings. Otherwise, based on his personality, even if I had forced him into marriage, he wouldn’t have agreed.
I never doubted his affection.
But people’s affection changes in the blink of an eye.
The next day, my dad completed Sophia’s enrollment process and found the best kindergarten for her in the area.
My dad had been stressed out for a long time due to the company’s stock acquisition issues.
Now that I’m here, he has a strong helper and can directly retire and go fishing.
Two weeks later.
While managing my work, I suddenly received an email from Assistant Jack.
“Ma’am, I’m not sure if you’ll see this email. I’ve tried various ways to contact you, but I suspect you’ve deactivated your identity and might not be in the country anymore.”

Chapter 8
“You don’t know, Mr. Dean almost went crazy these past few days.”
I read through the lines.
Assistant Jack told me a lot about what had happened in the country.
James had accompanied Amy to discharge from the hospital, and finally rushed home, only to be completely stunned.
His once lively home was now clean, neat, and empty.
All of Sophia’s and my things were gone–not a single item left.
At first, he thought I had just taken Sophia on a short trip.
But after waiting and waiting, he never heard from us.
James, usually so reserved, began to get anxious after a week and sent me a message.
“Lily, where have you and Sophia gone?”
But the message failed to send, and a red exclamation mark appeared.
That’s when James realized he had been blocked.
He then rushed to Sophia’s kindergarten.
“I’m here to pick up Sophia.”
The teacher looked at him in confusion. “Mr. Dean, are you mistaken? Aren’t you Amy’s father?”
James froze, and then realized how big of a mess this was.
Every time he came to the kindergarten, he was either picking up Amy or attending her parent–teacher meeting.
He had never paid attention to Sophia before.
Now, the teacher thought he was Amy’s father.
James frowned and explained, “No, Amy is my friend’s daughter. Sophia is my biological daughter.”
The teacher laughed as though she had heard a joke and looked him up and down.
“I’ve never seen anything like this–always attending other people’s parent–teacher meetings for their daughter, and now acting like he doesn’t even know his own daughter.”
“People might think you’re playing cosplay or something…”
“Sophia has already transferred schools. Her mom said they’re planning to settle abroad. They probably left about a week ago.”
James froze in place, unable to believe what he was hearing.
