She was so engrossed in reading that she was startled by Alexander’s sudden voice, causing Aveline to fall to the ground, scattering the files in her hand.
Alexander usually didn’t come back until late at night, so why did he come back so early today?

Alexander’s knuckles lifted her chin, forcing her to meet his gaze.

“Do you know why I didn’t keep that child?”
Aveline bit her lip and answered softly, “Because of Delilah.”
She had seen the autopsy report, and the real cause of Delilah’s death was not drowning, but being strangled and then thrown into the water. There was also an important piece of information- Delilah was three months pregnant.
