Tears streamed down Aveline’s cheeks. She knew that she and Alexander could never go back to the way
things were.
He betrayed her and harmed the Blackwood family. And the Blackwood family owed his sister a life as
well.
Those accounts were impossible to reconcile, like a tangled mess of yarn that only grew tighter the more. you tried to unravel it. The suffocating feeling would eventually lead them to their death.
Alexander held her face in his hands, his thumb wiping away the tears on her cheeks. “Aveline, don’t love me, hate me instead. I betrayed you, I harmed our child, and there’s no turning back for me.”
She felt his inner turmoil, his rare tenderness, like a glimpse of green emerging from an iceberg.
But soon, this new green was destroyed by another storm.

Alexander left the leaving Aveline with his back view.
Aveline knew that this turn was their farewell.
There was no turning back between them.
When Aveline went out again, Auntie Helen was no longer in the room. Kind–hearted Auntie Helen had always tried to reconcile the two, thinking their fights were just minor quarrels.
In her eyes, Aveline was the one and only Mrs. Sterling, unaware of her own mistake.
Aveline smiled bitterly. With Auntie Helen’s company, she didn’t feel lonely in the spacious mansion. It was only when Auntie Helen left that Aveline realized the emptiness of the house, just like her life, tasteless and dull.
The sky had already turned dark outside, and there was a pot of soup that Auntie Helen had cooked in the kitchen. Aveline served herself some.
The rising steam blurred her face, making it even more hazy.
Aveline’s expression remained calm as she took one sip after another.
She found a way to break free from this exhausting game.

Alexander, my father owes you, and I will repay you.
Aveline decided not to undergo chemotherapy anymore and instead enjoy the remaining days of her life.
She could see Alexander’s pain and conflict. Once she died, he wouldn’t have to be trapped in constant turmoil and hatred.
It turned out that this dead end only required her to die. From now on, Alexander would have a better
life.
He would have his own loved one and the child he had always hoped for.
He would still be the unattainable legend in City A.
Everything would be perfect, except for her absence.
How wonderful.
Aveline understood everything and suddenly felt the shackles that had bound her disappear.
That night, Alexander didn’t come back, and the Li Mansion fell into a deathly silence.
After spending so many days in the room, Aveline woke up early for the first time.
The rest these days had improved her spirits a lot, and Auntie Helen deserved credit for that. Under her care, Aveline’s complexion had become rosier.
The chemotherapy drugs seemed to be working, as her stomach hadn’t been uncomfortable for the past few days.
Aveline changed into a decent outfit and was about to push the door open when she saw Jordan standing outside with a cold expression.
He respectfully greeted her, “Madam.”
Aveline showed him a smile that had been absent for a long time. “Good morning”
Jordan was taken aback. Since their falling out, for the past two years, every time he saw Aveline, she would either be exhausted or in tears. It had been a long time since he had seen her smile like this.
His next words were tinged with reluctance, but Aveline took the initiative to speak, “Go ahead.”
“Mr. Sterling asked me to take Madam to the Civil Affairs Bureau.”

This answer was within Aveline’s expectations. Some things could still be excused if left unsaid, but once exposed, only reality remained.
