With only a glimmer of hope, Nola tried to remain calm and collected, while deep down inside she longed for Elvis to come back before Friday. Even if he couldn’t make it, she hoped he would at least send her a message.
Unfortunately, she heard nothing from him.
For several days, they hadn’t contacted each other, and Nola returned to her old routine. Only occasionally did she think of the owner of Breeze Garden.
Alisa noticed everything and tried to reassure Nola, asking her not to overthink things. Nola smiled but knew she had no right to think too much. To Elvis, she was not important.
Perhaps, as Elvis had said, without her, Mrs. Grayson could be anyone as long as she was someone he didn’t detest.
Nola knew that she could become Mrs. Grayson only because she seized the opportunity.
“Alisa, I won’t be coming back for dinner tonight.” Nola was dressed and ready, not in luxurious attire but still decent. She had only used the credit card Elvis had given her to buy a few books.
After all, she wasn’t accustomed to spending other people’s money, especially when their relationship was awkward.
“Mrs. Grayson, let the driver take you. I feel better knowing you’re in good hands.”
Nola hesitated for a moment but then agreed. She knew Alisa cared about her safety, so she said, “Don’t worry, Alisa. My father asked me to come back for dinner. I’ll be back as soon as it’s over.”
Finally, Alisa felt relieved and knew that Nola going back to her family’s home wouldn’t cause any problems.
Nola prepared herself to face whatever awaited her at home. She brought some fruit and got out of the car. Then she asked the driver to leave, telling the driver that she would call him when she came out.
Nola had no idea how long the dinner would last, and she knew that Lelia wouldn’t let her go so easily, especially since she was coming alone.
Nola took a deep breath and rang the doorbell.
The servant opened the door and respectfully stepped aside upon seeing that it was Nola who had returned. They had all heard that the young miss had married into the Grayson family. Regardless of the truth, it was not something they could afford to offend.
Nola stepped into the house, wearing her high heels and her own pride. Laughter and chatter could be heard from the living room, but it all seemed unrelated to her. Her appearance disrupted the previously peaceful scene.
In fact, she should not have been present at this dinner party today.
“Hey! The daughter who married into a wealthy family has returned. But why… are you the only one? Nola, didn’t you marry Mr. Grayson? Why did you come back empty–handed?”
Lelia spoke with a seemingly innocent expression, intending to humiliate Nola.
“I came back, didn’t I? Lelia, do you have any objections?” Nola responded confidently.
Lelia spoke in a strange tone. “Of course not. We’re small people and we can’t afford to offend the Grayson family. Myles, you’re his father–in–law, it’s your first–time dining together and he’s not even here. Isn’t that clearly showing disrespect towards you, an elder? Javion and our Tanya have just started dating, and yet they came back with gifts. Doesn’t the Grayson family know anything about manners?”

Myles sat in the living room, looking stern and silent. He was not pleased to see Nola empty–handed and without Elvis present.
Lelia spoke his mind, and he slammed his teacup heavily onto the coffee table. “You secretly got married behind your family’s back, and I didn’t say anything. But I am your father, and Elvis has married my daughter. Does my daughter really mean nothing to him? He never even considered your feelings?
Nola pretended she didn’t hear anything. Her father’s words were righteous and lofty, and those who didn’t know the truth would think he really cared about her.
Only he knew what his true purpose was for calling Nola and Elvis back.
“I came back, and that’s enough. The Grayson Group is busy every day, and he happened to be on a business trip and not at home,” said Nola.
Tanya said with a faint smile. She was holding Javion’s arm and seemed to be showing off. “What’s more important than a family dinner? Dad invited you all back for dinner, and it just so happens that Mr. Grayson is on a business trip. It’s really a coincidence. Dad, maybe Nola teamed up with someone else to deceive you just to escape the Joan family
Nola’s gaze darkened as she looked at Tanya. “Your imagination has gone so wild these days. You have no right to interfere in my affairs.”
Feeling rebuffed by Nola, Tanya almost lost her temper. But since Javion was there, she could only pretend to be aggrieved and keep quiet.
Javion silently comforted Tanya. He thought to himself that Nola was just as he remembered, lacking in femininity, sarcastic, and always bullying the weak Tanya.
She, Nola, didn’t come back to be criticized by them.
“Dad, you said on the phone that there was something important to talk to me about regarding mom. What is it?”
“This is not the time to talk about such an important matter.”
“We can go to the study and talk privately.”
In fact, Myles just wanted to see Elvis and see if there was an opportunity to make a business connection so that Apex Group could be worry–free in the future. But to his surprise, only Nola came back.
Lelia smiled and said, “Since everyone is back, there’s no need to rush. Let’s eat first, and we can talk slowly after dinner.
Suddenly, Lelia began to chatter, “Javion is such a well–behaved and polite child. He brought so many gifts and health products when he came over. I felt embarrassed to accept them!”
“You are Tanya’s family, so you are my family too. In the future, the Lee family and the Grant family will be one family. These are all natural things that should happen.”
Two sons–in–law, one gentle and considerate with good manners, and the other couldn’t even be seen, the contrast was stark. These words were deliberately spoken to Nola. However, Nola sat quietly drinking tea, showing no expression and not caring what they said.
Lelia felt frustrated by Nola’s indifferent attitude.
“Nola. Now that you’re married, I have to tell you that if a woman can’t capture a man’s heart and he doesn’t value you, even if you marry into a good family, you will suffer. The relationship between husband and wife is a profound art. Look at how considerate Javion is to Tanya. You should humbly ask Tanya for advice on this matter.”
Myles also nodded, “Lelia is right. Since you’re married, I can’t say much. However, you can’t lose face for our family in the Grayson family. Today’s dinner, you came back alone, which shows that they don’t value you. You should reflect on yourself.
