Chapter 37
“You have that gun with you,” I said. “And I don’t want to die”
He looked at the gun and again threw it away.
LIKE LAST TIME.
And I remember that… I DIDN’T HAVE GOOD EXPERIENCE LAST TIME.
“Then,” he said. “I want this”
He came closer and kissed me.
Soft kiss once again. I Love this side of him, I-
Wait.
I don’t love him… I- how can I?
No–no, that was a mistake.
This kiss, it was as soft as feather.
“I am willing to give you some days,” he said. “I bet you can’t heal me”
“I can. Trust me” I replied.
For the first time, I saw him smiling.
HE WAS REALLY SMILING.
“What happened just now then, tell me the truth. Why did you go to Mr. Spencer?” he asked as he got a little away.
“There was a condition… 60% shares in the profit of your company for the next decade. That–that was irrelevant, so I went to negotiate…” I said.
He looked at me to continue but then he spoke up.
“I would have sent my negotiator,” he said. “That wasn’t your job”
“I know, but she would have come tomorrow, so…”
“What happened then?” he asked.
“We ended up with 40% final value and that too for 5 years,” I said happily.
Yup, that was the first time I was happy.

He suddenly kept his hands on my cheeks. Delicately. Softly. And I don’t know why, but I didn’t flinch.
“Oh god, and I was thinking…” he said as he kept his hand on his forehead.
“It is okay.” I said.
“Really?”
“Yeah.” I said. He smiled again.
“Can I ask for something?” I asked him. He nodded his head.
“I need your time. After tomorrow’s deal… can you give me some time with you?” I asked.
He thought for a second.
“How much?” he asked.
“As much as you like,” I said.
“I won’t like it… I like being alone” he said.
“And that’s what I am here to change, Robert”
“You will not be able to,” he said.
“Bet?”
“You’re betting with me?” he asked shocked.
“Yeah,” I said.
“You have changed,” he said.
Oh, believe me, YOU HAVE CHANGED RIGHT NOW.
“No, it’s just… you deserve better,” I said. He looked at me in confusion.
“Why?” he asked.
“Just like that,” I said.
“No… why?” he asked again.
“There is not a reason, Robert. You just… are not what you show” I spoke honestly.
“TELL ME THE REAL REASON!!” he yelled. I flinched again.
“I–II am s–speaking the truth, Robert… you–you need to trust me”
He looked at me and then here and there. “I–I—see I will be like this, that’s why it’s better try not to change me,” he

said.
“And that is when I will not give up, Robert,” I said. He looked at me with confusion again, but didn’t reply and went
from there,
“Make me dinner,” he said. I smiled and then went to the kitchen,
But looking at the kitchen, I felt bad all of a sudden.
I mean, those memories… I can’t forget them…..
I have to take this risk.
I started making dinner and he came into the kitchen. I suddenly felt fear rise in ine.
“What are you making?” he asked in his husky voice.
“ah… your favorite dinner”
“Hm… let me guess. Pinto beans with soft fried potatoes, cornbread, fried bone–in pork chops, and a big ole hunk of onion on the side?”
“You got me!” I said. He smiled and looked at me.
“Was I a devil?” he asked suddenly out of the blue.
“Doesn’t matter because under that façade is the beautiful man I see now” I said cheesily.
“I think you meant handsome?” he said.
“No, beautiful. I–I mean of course Handsome too, but beautiful… from inside”
He looked at me with shock. “Y–You are saying that?”
“Yes, I am, Robert,” I said. “Now please sit in the living room, I am bringing the dinner”
“You mean the dining room?”
“Yeah…” I said sadly.
“Hailey?” he asked.
“I–I miss my mom… Robert” I said as a tear fell from my eyes. “I–I have never been away for this long from her or
Alex…”
He kept quiet as he listened to me.
“W–We used to have the same room for living and dining that is why I forgot,” I said and smiled remembering those times. “It will take time, I guess”
He looked at me as he took out his phone.

“You wanna talk to Alex?”
“W–will you let me?” I asked.
L
“Yes,” he said and handed me his phone. “I am waiting in the dining room, bring the food… after talking”
“Y–You trust me?” I asked him. He thought for a second.
“I hope you deserve… a chance,” he said and went away.
Hailey’s POV
I dialed his number. I remember his number from the heart.
“Hello?” Alex’s voice came.
Listening to his voice, tears came to my eyes.
“A–Alex,” I said.
I heard pages rustle and then I heard his grasping some air.
“H–Hailey? Is that you!?”
“Y–Yes Alex,” I said.
“Oh god, are you okay!?”
“Yes, I am,” I said. “How are you? And mom?”
“We’re good, Hailey… b–but you? Where are you!? When are you coming back?”
