Chapter 3
It was as if I forced him to go to the motel with me and forced him to sleep with me.
Memories flashed–me slurring “Two rooms, please” at the front desk, him smirking, “One’s enough.”
Hot tears streaked my cheeks. “You’re such a jerk!”
For a heartbeat, panic flickered in his eyes.
Then came the knife twist.
“Besides, you weren’t exactly fighting me off. Adults hook up -it’s normal.”
I couldn’t bear it any longer, so I grabbed the glass cup on the coffee table and threw it at him.
After Antonio left, I bolted to the downstairs bathroom.
I slumped against the cold wall, knees hugged to my chest.
I turned the faucet and vent fan to the max to drown out my
sobs.
“You’re disgusting, Grace.”
“Why’d you let him?”
“Why fall for someone who treats you like a consolation prize?”
After a good cry, the piercing pain in my heart slowly began

to ease.
I scrubbed myself raw in the shower.

When I came out of the bathroom, it felt like a piece of my heart was missing. I couldn’t even feel the pain anymore.
I was lost and detached.
After thinking it over for the entire night, I mustered up the courage to tell Antonio’s parents about my plan to move out.
They were very surprised and wanted to know what had happened.
I stammered and avoided mentioning the fact that Antonio and I had slept together, only giving them a general idea.
After listening, they sighed several times.
They just said that they would respect my decision since I was an adult.
Finally, they took out a stack of things from the safe.
Uncle Nelson patted my shoulder and said, “This is the inheritance your parents left you. Over the years, Linda and I have been carefully managing it. It has increased in value several times.”
“Now that you are an adult, it’s time to hand over these stocks, funds, and insurance policies to you.”
I reached out my hand.
Tears poured out like a broken dam.

If it weren’t for Antonio, I would stay with them forever.
The next day, I saw that Antonio’s Buddy, Fleath, had posted several photos on his instagram.
Some of the photos were of a hotel room decked out with countless roses and mood lights.
Others showed them eating together and playing hockey.
The caption read, “Congrats to my boy for finally winning his love!”
I clicked on a few.
To my surprise, the photos were live, so there were voices coming from them.
“Tony, come on. Tell us the truth. Did you sleep with her or
not?”
My heart tightened. I quickly swiped to the next photo.
Antonio’s voice came through.
“Damn it. I even took off my pants, but in the end, I still couldn’t bring myself to do it.”
“What’s the matter with you? You can sleep with Grace, but
not with Madison?”
“You don’t get it. It’s different. Madison is too pure.”
At the same time, my bestie Trista called me.
“Grace, check out the group chat. Everyone’s saying that Antonio slept with you.

“They’re also saying that you’re butting into the relationship between Madison and him.”
My head buzzed. Trista’s words were like thunderclaps exploding in my mind..
A few seconds later, Heath deleted that post.
I trembled as I clicked open the group chat.
Sure enough, there was a heated discussion going on.
“Did you guys see the live photos Heath posted? There’s Antonio’s voice in them.”
“Grace is a bitch. She knew Madison was about to accept Antonio, yet she still seduced him.”
“I heard that when she was little, her parents abandoned her, which is why she was sent to the Kaufman family.”
The messages showed no sign of stopping until another buzz.
Antonio sent a voice message in the group chat.
“Are you all bored out of your minds? If anyone keeps gossiping, I’ll fucking deal with them!”
Soon, the group chat fell silent.
I wiped the tears and then started packing my luggage.
I had just been in the middle of packing when the doorbell
rang.
Auntie Linda called out to me from downstairs.

I dropped my half–packed luggage and went downstairs,
Upon seeing the sight, I froze.
Antonio was holding Madison’s hand in the center of the living room.
