Rosalie scoffed, her tone dripping with impatience. “You’re wondering where he got it? He either found it, stole it or had it copied. Do you seriously think he’s a prince?”
Heidi nodded in agreement. “Exactly.”
The two of them were feeling a bit awkward now. Their attempt to embarrass Lucas using Bill had completely backfired.
Lucas, on the other hand, simply shrugged, not explaining.
As for the suit? It was a gift from Fleurvain’s royal family, along with a forced honorary prince title. He hadn’t even been given the option to refuse.
The banquet began soon.
Due to the earlier mishap, Heidi’s scheme to disgrace Lucas through Bill had completely fallen apart.
Meanwhile, Celine’s expression had softened. Throughout the meal, she occasionally stole glances at
Lucas.
She realized she couldn’t quite figure him out.
Beneath his laid–back exterior, he seemed to carry an air of mystery as if concealing countless secrets.
Willy, on the other hand, remained silent, watching Lucas eat with zero table manners, lost in his thoughts.
Once the meal was over and the maids had cleared the table, Willy turned to Lucas with a faint smile. “Lucas, why don’t we have a private chat in the study?”
Lucas had anticipated that and nodded. “Sure.”
Inside the study, Willy–the formidable head of the Xavier Group–gestured for Lucas to sit. His demeanor shifted entirely from the affable host at dinner to a sharp, penetrating stare.
Years of managing a multi–billion–dollar empire had honed his presence into something commanding, almost suffocating.
Most people would feel overwhelmed under such scrutiny–breaking into cold sweats, fumbling for words, barely able to breathe.
But Lucas met Willy’s intense gaze with complete composure, not even blinking.
After a long pause, Willy finally withdrew his stare and pulled open a drawer, retrieving a transparent plastic bag–the kind used for crime evidence. With a thud, he tossed it onto the desk.
Inside was the shell casing from the pistol that had exploded the night before, still bearing a distinct, almost eerie fingerprint on the barrel–a silent testament to the deadly skill of its owner.
“Dude, you took down a squad of assassins all by yourself,” Willy remarked lightly. “You’re far more dangerous than them.”
Lucas feigned an exaggerated look of horror, jumping to his feet and waving his hands. “Dad, please— don’t call me ‘dude. We’re from completely different generations.”

Willy continued to study Lucas, his gaze unreadable, as though trying to see straight through him.
“Tell me, why are you getting close to my daughter?”
Lucas shrugged. “To marry her.”
“That’s it?” Willy squinted.
“That’s it,” Lucas replied without hesitation.
Willy smiled meaningfully. “I’ll take your word for it. Either way, you wouldn’t hurt her, would you?”
Lucas lit a cigarette and put on a playful smile. “Hurt her? Probably not. Annoy her? Maybe now and then.”
For a split second, Willy’s expression stiffened. But when he registered the full response, he burst into hearty laughter. Standing up, he clapped a hand on Lucas‘ shoulder.
Willy was no fool–he knew when to press and back off.
By this morning, he had already used his extensive network to dig into Lucas‘ background.
But the results were ordinary. Too ordinary.
It only meant one thing–Lucas wasn’t ordinary at all. Someone had deliberately hidden his real information, with security so tight that even Willy’s top resources couldn’t crack it.
Having a man like that near his daughter could be a double–edged sword. A potential threat, yes—but also a hidden advantage.
Lucas remained in his room that night, his usual rebellious demeanor subdued. His expression was serious as he examined the phone in his hand–the one that had belonged to the now–dead trafficker, Marty.
Scrolling through the contact list, his eyes landed on a name–Flint.
“Flint? Are you just another trafficker? Or the one running the whole operation? Let’s see if you leave any clues behind,” he murmured.
Lucas knew that if he wanted to track down his sister, the best place to start was with the trafficking ring. For years, he had chased down every lead, never letting a single clue slip away.
Just as he was pondering his next move to locate Flint, his phone suddenly rang.
He glanced at the screen–a local number he didn’t recognize.
After a brief pause, he picked up. “Who’s this?”
“Mister? Is that you?” a young girl’s voice came from the other end.
“Mister?” Lucas frowned. “You must have the wrong number.”
He was just about to hang up because the way she addressed him was wrong.
“Huh?” The girl sounded puzzled, followed by a series of frustrated mutters.
