apter 5
The day of Yancy and Xena’s engagement ceremony, he woke up early.
He stayed by my bedside, repeatedly checking on me.
Just as he was about to leave, I got up to use the restroom but accidentally slipped and fell
A pool of blood instantly spread beneath me.
When he turned back and saw me sitting in a sea of red, Yancy’s face twisted in horror, his voice thundering through the hospital halls:
*Ana!”
Ignoring how the blood had stained his meticulously tailored suit, he scooped me up and sprinted toward the emergency room.
He shouted my name over and over: “Ana, baby, don’t sleep!”
“It’s okay! The doctors will save you!”
After I was rushed into the operating room, he collapsed to the ground, his entire body trembling uncontrollably, as if overwhelmed by sheer terror.
When I was finally wheeled out, he scrambled to his feet, his bloodshot eyes locking onto me as he gripped my hand, murmuring non–stop:
“It’s okay now, Ana… it’s okay now…”
Again and again, as if trying to reassure himself.
When the doctor said there were no major issues, the tension in his body loosened slightly, but he never

Tears streamed down his face as he gently escorted me back to my room, pressing tender kisses onto my fingers, whispering after each kiss:
“Baby, you’ve suffered so much.”
When I woke up, I saw him still sitting beside my bed, which felt odd.
At this time, his proposal ceremony should have already started. Why was he still here?

The next second, I saw him checking his phone again and again.
I closed my eyes, then forced a smile:
“If you have something to do, just go. I’m fine.”
He hesitated, his feet unmoving.
I smiled again. “The doctor said I’m really okay.”
He leaned down and kissed my cheek.
“Baby, wait for me. I’ll be back soon.”
After that, he gave strict instructions to the caretakers before rushing out the door.
What he didn’t know was that the moment he left, I sent his soon–to–be fiancee three words:
“You win.”
Last night, Xena messaged me:
“Wanna bet on who he’ll choose?”
I already knew the answer.
But still, when he stepped out that door, I completely shattered.
The man who used to fret over my slightly reddened eyes had now abandoned me, his heavily pregnant wife suffering from hemorrhaging, to propose to another woman.
The last sliver of hope in my heart–was completely crushed.
In the hospital hallway, I heard someone playing a short video:
A mysterious tycoon booked an entire scenic area for a grand proposal to his beloved.
Although the site was blocked off, all visitors here today will receive free gold gift boxes.
It is rumored that the bride–to–be is a flight attendant, and tonight, ten thousand drones will light up the sky with a confession of love.
The words? “Xena, I love you.”
I vomited until I couldn’t even breathe.
Chapter 5
Once I recovered a little, I took my phone and bag, made an excuse to take a walk, grabbed a janitor’s uniform from the hallway, and took a taxi to a nearby hospital-
To get an abortion.
Yancy had a bad feeling.
As he arrived at the foot of this mountain, an overwhelming unease gnawed at him.
He thought of Ana sitting in a pool of blood, and his heart clenched violently.
Something precious was slipping away.
He quickly took out his phone and sent her a message:
“Baby, are you okay? Please, if anything happens, tell me right away! No matter what, I’ll come back for
you!”
Xena, dazzling in an elegant gown, stood before him, looking more beautiful than ever.
But all he could see was Ana’s lifeless smile before he left.
The unease in his heart would not fade.
The staff signaled for him to begin the proposal.
“Xena, will you marry me?”
A simple sentence, one he had rehearsed countless times–yet suddenly, he couldn’t say it.
Instead, memories of his first proposal to Ana flooded back.
Her gentle smile, her boundless love, her unwavering presence.
And the bloodstain this morning.
Ana had suffered so much for him.
But he… was here proposing to another woman.
Xena looked at him with eager anticipation.
But all he felt was a tidal wave of love and guilt for Ana, surging uncontrollably.
He finally realized his true feelings-
