Chapter 7
The air felt like it had frozen solid.
Amara was perched awkwardly on Finnian’s stomach, her knee digging into his abs, one hand bracing on his firm chest while the other covered his eyes. She hovered over him, breathing heavily.
She intended to get off him immediately, but when he suddenly barked, “Stop moving,” she froze.
Her mind was still a bit foggy, tinged with a hint of hurt. After all, she was the one who had been bumped into and now her bare skin was prickling with goosebumps from the cold air.
She hadn’t meant to take advantage of the situation. She just wanted to leave as quickly as possible. Why did Finnian have to yell at her?
With a small bite to her lip, she decided she couldn’t just let him have the last word. She spoke softly, “Close your eyes, and I’ll get out of here right away.”
With that, Amara cautiously lifted her hand. Seeing that Finnian had his eyes tightly shut, his lashes trembling slightly and his jaw clenched, she quickly scrambled off him and dashed towards the bedroom.
Finnian lay there, his breath coming in heavy gasps. He heard a door slam shut, and he propped himself up, glancing downward, his expression darkening.
In the bedroom, Amara tried to calm her racing heart as she got dressed, making sure her mask was securely in place.

After checking her reflection from the mirror to ensure everything was in order, she stepped out of the room.
A consultation with her doctor revealed that her new delicate skin couldn’t make direct contact with the air even though her face had been fully treated. The skin would turn to normal in three months, during which she needed to use the face mask.
As she faced Finnian again in the living room, both of them felt a tad awkward.
In the three years since their marriage, Finnian hadn’t once come home. Now, on the rare occasion he did, they’d been caught in such an embarrassing situation; the two looked discomforted.
Turning her back to him, Amara asked casually, “What brings you here?”
Finnian replied coolly, “To pack my things.”
Amara paused. Just as she was about to ask what he meant, Finnian’s gaze fell on the open suitcase on the bedroom floor, and he looked up at her, questioning, “You’re moving out?”
Amara nodded, feeling a twinge of bitterness. Since he was planning to divorce her, could she really justify staying here?
Finnian continued, “Didn’t you read the divorce agreement? This house is yours.”
Amara was shocked and immediately replied, “No, that’s too much.”
This house was worth 15 million! She could never earn that much in her lifetime. Besides, the Everly family had already given her so much money, it felt overwhelming to take on more.
Finnian gave her a curious look. In their circles, during a divorce, both parties would typically try to squeeze as much out of the other as possible.
Why was she so willing to give up?
“Don’t overthink it.”
Finnian’s voice turned a shade colder. “If I say it’s yours, then take it.”

Years of being in charge had lent a commanding tone to his voice, leaving no room for argument.

Amara initially wanted to protest. But she realized, in the past three years, she was the only one who had lived there. The house was filled with traces of her life, and Finnian likely wouldn’t return. So, leaving the house to her was a way of managing the situation.
Dropping her gaze, she said, “Alright, you go ahead and pack. I’m going out.”
During their marriage, the Everly family’s staff had brought some of Finnian’s belongings over, but not much. He would probably finish packing quickly, so Amara decided to take a walk and return once he was done. As she left, Finnian’s eyes lingered on her retreating form before he finally turned away.
Amara always wore a mask, which drew attention to her eyes as he gazed at her. Her eyes were always so bright and captivating, as if they could pull him in.
Suddenly, he recalled the earlier moment of her soft warmth, the silky touch of her skin, and felt a flush of heat rising in him, his stomach tightening.
Finnian cursed under his breath, fetched some clothes from the wardrobe, and headed for a cold shower. Outside, Amara wandered around the garden when her phone buzzed. Answering it, she heard Kevin’s exasperated voice.
“How dare you pull this stunt? Get back here right away!”
Amara was bewildered but complied with his request and headed to the family’s estate.
For the past three years, Kevin had been kind to her, often buying her things, and it was he who had helped when her stepmother and stepsister caused trouble at the villa.
Upon entering the estate, she found him seated in a large armchair, glaring at her with fury.
Before Amara could speak, he slammed a hand on the armrest and shouted, “You’ve got some nerve, trying to divorce! I’ve already had the paperwork pulled from the courthouse. You’re not leaving us, and that actress Liliana is not stepping foot in this family!”
