Chapter 39
When Shawn’s driver dropped him off at his villa, it was already three in the morning.
He stumbled his way to the bedroom, collapsing onto the bed and falling into a deep sleep almost immediately. When Shawn opened his eyes again, it was pain that pulled him from his dreams.
“Allison, my stomach hurts,” he mumbled groggily. “Can you bring me some antacids?”
Silence.
He called out again, “Allison, Allison-”
Suddenly, his eyes snapped open, and he sat up in bed.
As clarity returned, Shawn remembered that Allison had moved out.
A mix of emotions swirled in him, leaving his heart feeling both empty and heavy.
Clutching his stomach, he got out of bed and searched the house but couldn’t find any antacid.
The pain became unbearable, so he grabbed his phone and called the housekeeper.
Marian was disoriented when she answered.
“Where are the antacids?” Shawn’s voice was strained.
Marian clenched her fists and took a deep breath, reminding herself why she stayed. ‘It’s okay, it’s okay, the pay is good. A little lost sleep is manageable.
Her eyes flicked to the clock on her phone. It was four in the morning.
‘Seriously, is he out of his mind? This is supposed to be rest time!‘
Taking several deep breaths to squash the urge to quit on the spot, she responded calmly, “The medicine box is in Ms. Allison’s room, first shelf of the cabinet.”
Shawn hung up and made his way to Allison’s room, leaning against the wall for support. He opened the cabinet door and found a medicine box filled with various medications, leaving him feeling overwhelmed.
He found the medicine, but… he didn’t know which one to take.
Whenever his stomach acted up before, Allison would administer the medicine herself.
With no other choice, he skimmed through the labels and instructions while enduring the stabbing pain and settled on taking two pills.
He thought, ‘It’s not like it’s going to kill me.‘
Once the medication took effect, Shawn drifted back into sleep.
When Shawn woke again, it was already noon.
He called for the housekeeper.
“Make me some soup.”
Marian hesitated. “Sir, you mean the special broth Ms. Allison often made?”
“Yes.”
She shook her head. “I’m afraid I can’t make that.”
Shawn’s face darkened slightly. “Why not?”
She explained, “That soup requires soaking certain ingredients overnight and fresh beef. It’s too late to start
now.

Shawn’s brow twitched. “You can make plain oatmeal, right?”
Marian chuckled. “That I can do,”
“Then make me a bowl of plain oatmeal”
Shawn, feeling a pounding headache, leaned back against the bed and closed his eyes, massaging his temples
to relax.
“Knock, knock, knock“-a knocking sound came from the door,
Shawn’s eyes flew open, a surge of hope rising in his chest.
Had Allison come back for him?
He knew it; Allison couldn’t be that heartless to leave him.
