Larry noticed them from the corner of his eye but chose to ignore it. Instead, he said, “Ama, I initially planned to give you and Elowen each ten percent of the shares. But now, I don’t think that’s necessary.
Next week, when we finalize the share transfer, I’m going to give you fifteen percent of the shares.”
Larry was offering a total of twenty percent of the shares, which meant if Amara got fifteen percent, Elowen would be left with just five percent.
Larry deliberately raised his voice, clearly intending for Fiona and Elowen, who were lurking in the background, to hear every word.
Sure enough, Elowen couldn’t stand it anymore and walked over, protesting, “Dad, why am I only getting five percent of the shares? That’s way too little.”
“Shut up!”
Larry’s face steely, and he couldn’t hold back any longer. He bellowed, “You’re lucky to be getting five percent! With the way you treat your sister, you shouldn’t even have that! Stop whining and get out of here!”
Larry was a man who valued his pride above all else, and causing a scene in front of Finnian was already testing his patience. For Elowen to openly voice her dissatisfaction was the last straw.
As Fiona dragged Elowen away, trying to keep up a brave face, Elowen looked like she was about to unleash a tirade. Amara smiled slightly to herself.
The next morning, Amara and Finnian got ready and headed downstairs to join the Sullivan family for breakfast.
Elowen, dressed in a floral dress, saw Amara approaching and smirked smugly, “Oh, Amara, you’re just now coming down? Dad’s already been here. If we weren’t waiting for you, breakfast would have been over.”
Her words were laced with sarcasm, and as Amara was about to point out that it was only eight o’clock, a perfectly reasonable time for breakfast and they weren’t not late, Finnian chimed in, “Well, considering we’re a married couple, getting up at this time is already pretty early.”
His remark left the room silent for a moment.
Amara didn’t immediately grasp his meaning, but when she did, her cheeks flushed a bright red. Meanwhile, Elowen looked absolutely furious.
She bit her lip, casting a few sideways glances at Finnian, clearly still harboring feelings for him. She couldn’t understand why, when the Everly family was looking to make an alliance, they didn’t choose her.
Both she and Amara were Sullivan children, and everyone said Amara was less attractive now, making her a better candidate. But as the stepdaughter, she had a similarly awkward status, perfect for such an arrangement. Why wouldn’t Finnian choose her instead?
“Make sure you eat plenty, Amara, Elowen spat venomously. “You barely touched your food yesterday, hiding. behind that mask of yours. You should take it off later while eating.”
“No need,” Amara replied, casting her an indifferent glance. “Just looking at you ruins my appetite.”
It was the first time Amara had spoken so bluntly, and Elowen’s eyes widened in disbelief at her sister’s words.
Just then, Larry entered the room, prompting everyone to fall silent and take their seats, waiting for him to assume his place at the head of the table.
