Chapter 85
The client’s eyes lit up the moment they saw the young and attractive Allison walk in.
A slightly chubby executive gave her a sly grin. “And who might this lovely lady be?”
Jack discreetly rolled his eyes at Allison, clearly unimpressed.
Allison placed the contract on the table with a slight smile. “Mr. Hank, Mr. Adams, I’m Allison from Summit & Vale Solicitors. I’m here to discuss a potential contract with you.”
She settled into a nearby armchair. “Mr. Hank, your company’s contract with the previous law firm is about to expire, isn’t it? You might want to consider signing with us. Summit & Vale is the leading firm in Oak Lake, with top–notch experts in civil, criminal, intellectual property, and administrative law.
“Mr. Adams, I’ve also heard that your company is handling a trademark infringement issue. Our intellectual property lawyers have tackled thousands of such cases. You can’t go wrong with us.”
Mr. Hank casually flipped through the contract she handed over, barely glancing at it before tossing it aside.
He fixed his gaze on Allison, his smile unsettling. “Ah, legal consultations. We can chat about that. How about you join me for a few drinks first, Allison? Once I’m happy, everything’s up for negotiation.”
Mr. Adams eyed Allison with the same lecherous look. “Allison, you’re too young and pretty just to be a lawyer. Why not consider being with me? You wouldn’t have to hustle on these cases anymore. I’ll give you ten grand a month. What do you say?”
Allison kept her cool. “I’m sorry, Mr. Adams, I’m here to talk business, not to sell myself.”
“I get it, I get it.” Mr. Adams kept grinning. “Young ladies these days have quite the spirit. You don’t have to decide now.”
He pulled a business card from his pocket and handed it to Allison with a drink. “Here’s my card. Call me anytime you change your mind and want an easier life.”
Allison instinctively felt something was off about the drink Mr. Hank offered. She shook her head. “I’m sorry, Mr. Hank, but I don’t drink.”
Mr. Hank wasn’t bothered. He smirked slyly, setting the glass down slowly before moving towards Allison. “Allison, you are quite principled.”
Suddenly, he grabbed Allison’s wrist. “You have such a fiery temper but you are clueless about the unspoken rules of business. Let me teach you a lesson today!”
The sleazy, greasy old man, reeking of smoke and alcohol, lunged at Allison.
In a swift move, Allison twisted his arms behind his back.
Mr. Hank winced in pain, and his smile disappeared. “You damn bitch! How dare you lay hands on me?”
Mr. Adams‘ expression changed drastically as he cursed and got up to assist. “Let’s get her together!”
Allison delivered a swift kick to both, hitting them where it hurt, and in their moment of distraction, she made a
run for it.
One of the men erupted in fury, shouting menacingly, “Damn it! She kicked me! Get her! Tonight, she’s going to pay for this!”
Jack was the first to give chase. Hank and Adams followed suit.
Allison dashed out of the room, skipping the elevator and opting for the stairs in her haste.
Running in heels was tricky, and just as she reached the first floor and exited the stairwell, she collided with
someone.
She found herself enveloped in a broad, warm embrace, surrounded by the fresh, woody scent of the man.
