Chapter 89
An hour later, Allison strolled into Nicole’s office, looking as composed as ever. She laid the contract on Nicole’s desk with a confident smile. “Nicole, I’ve wrapped up everything you asked for. We’ve secured a five–year legal consultancy deal, and the $150,000 is already in the account. Plus, I’ve snagged three agreements on debt disputes and one on patent infringement. All are general representation, with legal fees paid upfront, bringing the total to a neat $800,000, including the consultancy fee. You can check with finance, and I’ve got the receipts here too.”
As she spoke, Allison pulled out her phone, flipping through her photo gallery to show Nicole the payment screenshots. “I’ve covered the firm’s losses.”
Nicole was left speechless, her eyes wide as she flipped through the contract, double–checking the signatures and stamps. “Owens International… Javier is your…?”
Allison beamed, “Yep, that’s my dad.”
With a thud, the contract slipped from Nicole’s hands, hitting the floor. She gaped, “You’re the heiress of the Owens family?”
After all the chaos she’d endured, Allison decided it was time to drop the low profile. “That’s right.”
Before Nicole could fully digest the shock, her phone buzzed with another call.
“Attorney Nicole, who is this Allison from your firm? How does she know Mr. Joshua Fisher? Mr. Adams got roughed up by Mr. Fisher’s bodyguards last night, and now audit and tax folks are all over us. I heard it’s all Mr. Fisher’s doing.”
Joshua?
Nicole’s face went pale, a cold sweat breaking out on her forehead. When she ended the call, her heart pounded in her chest. “You… you know the CEO of Fisher Corporation?”
Allison crossed her arms, her gaze icy. “Yep, he’s my fiancé and the one behind those Cullinan rumors.”
Nicole’s face was a picture of panic, stammering, “I’m… sorry, I didn’t realize you were Mr. Fisher’s fiancée…”
It hit Nicole then. Lillian had set her up. She couldn’t afford to cross the Fisher family, so when Lillian, their adopted daughter, told her to target Allison, she had complied. But Lillian never mentioned Allison was the Owens family heiress and Joshua’s fiancée.
Now, Joshua stepped in after Allison got harassed, and what did that mean for her?
As soon as Allison left, Nicole frantically dialed Lillian. “Ms. Lillian, is it true that Allison is Joshua’s fiancée?”
Lillian, clearly irritated, snapped back, “Can you give me something useful? I’m not here for chitchat.”
When she realized Lillian didn’t deny it, Nicole’s panic rose. “You told me to go after her, but you didn’t say she was Joshua’s fiancée. I’m screwed. I’ve inadvertently crossed Joshua. You’ve got to help me!”
Lillian laughed dismissively. “I told you to deal with her exactly because she is Joshua’s fiancée. Help you? I’ve got no time for that.”
“Ms. Lillian, I only set Allison up with those two sleazy old guys because you told me to. If you don’t help, I’ll have to spill the beans! You don’t want Mr. Fisher knowing what you’ve been up to, do you?”
Lillian hated being threatened. Her voice was steely, “You’re threatening me?”
“I’m just laying out the facts, Ms. Lillian, Joshua’s already dealt with those two old guys, and I’m next in line. If things go south for me, it won’t do you any favors.”
“It’s not that big a deal. Just find a reason to resign. I can set you up with another firm. If the Fisher family comes after you, just insist you didn’t know those guys were creeps. If things get dicey, I’ll cover you. But if you leak even a word, you’re on your own!

“Relax, as long as you don’t leave me hanging, I won’t breathe a word.”
