Chapter 97
“Joshua…” Allison murmured softly.
Joshua brushed his lips against Allison’s cheek. His voice was gentle. “I’m right here.”
“That incident with David, and then the fight with Shawn a few days ago… Allison bit her lip. “If your family finds out you lost control and almost hurt someone because of me, will they call off our engagement?”
Joshua kissed her forehead. “I won’t let that happen. They won’t find out.”
Allison lowered her eyes, feeling a knot in her chest. Her voice was barely above a whisper. “You don’t have to go through all this for someone like me.”
“Allie.” Joshua tilted her chin up with his warm, strong hand, making her meet his gaze. “It’s worth it. You mean more to me than my own life.”
His eyes were intense, filled with a burning passion that took Allison by surprise. Emotion surged within her, leaving her speechless for a moment.
She never realized she was so important to Joshua. Allison’s eyelashes fluttered with fear. She was terrified of being a burden to him. Just the thought of him ending up in jail because of her made her heart race with anxiety.
“Allie, weren’t you just saying you wouldn’t cry? What’s with the tears now?”
Joshua’s voice brought Allison back to the present, and she noticed the wetness on her cheeks. She pouted, “Then help me wipe them away.”
Joshua’s slightly rough fingertips gently brushed away her tears.
Suddenly, Allison wrapped her arms around Joshua’s waist, buried her face in his chest, and nuzzled him like a
kitten.
-Joshua felt his heart melt.
Allison inhaled his scent, letting out a contented sigh, “Joshua, you smell so nice.”
Joshua chuckled, “If you like it, take it in.”
Allison played coy in his embrace. “Joshua, kiss me.”

Joshua thought he was imagining things. He widened his eyes a bit, holding her shoulders to look at her directly. “What did you just say?”
Allison blushed, the pink spreading to her ears. She bit her lip, her voice soft as a whisper. “I said… kiss me…”
As soon as the words escaped her lips, Joshua’s kisses descended on her. His lips were soft.
It was Allison’s first kiss, and she stood there awkwardly, her teeth clenched, unsure of how to react.
Her heart was pounding. Thud, thud, it almost leaped out of her chest.
Joshua kissed her gently, savoring the moment. Soon, his breathing became uneven. Before losing control, Joshua pulled back from her lips.
Allison heard his ragged breath and looked up to see his flushed face and eyes clouded with desire.
“Why did you stop?” Allison asked, confused, her eyes wide with wonder.
“Mm, you should get some rest. I’m heading back.” Joshua steadied his breath, trying to sound calm. “If we keep going, things might get out of hand.”
Allison understood exactly what he meant by “things might get out of hand.”
Her face turned beet red. “Okay… be careful on your way home.”

Joshua gave her a lingering look and said, “You’re so sweet.”
“Huh? What?” Allison tilted her head, her eyes full of curiosity.
Joshua lifted a finger, gently pressing it to her luscious red lips. His eyes were dark with undisclosed emotions. “You’re so sweet. Right here.”
Allison felt like a bolt of electricity ran through her, leaving her tingling all over. She turned and dashed into her bedroom. “Goodbye!”
Joshua watched her retreat with a fond smile.
The next day, Allison headed to a banquet at the Fisher family’s estate.
Their place was in the same gated community as the Owens family mansion. Before heading to the Fishers, Allison made a quick stop at home.
Javier and Linda were home, and when they saw her, Javier asked, “You’ve been away from home lately. Where have you been staying?”
Allison already knew the truth about Javier’s remarriage, which was her mother’s last wish. Her attitude towards him had softened.
She replied calmly, “I’ve been staying at the apartment my cousin gave me. It’s close to the law firm and really convenient for work.”
