Chapter 107
Brian was fuming, “That woman is absolutely obsessed with Joshua! She’s been tailing him for a decade, but he’s barely exchanged a dozen words with her. Her mental state is definitely off. Allie, maybe she’s acting out of jealousy because she thinks you ‘stole‘ Joshua from her.”
Rose’s chest rose and fell with rage. “She’s a total nutcase! If anything happens to my boy, I won’t let her get away with it!”
Emily’s expression was stern as she glanced at Rose. “Rose, Joshua’s still in the operating room. How can you talk like that? Are you trying to jinx him?”
Rose’s eyes were red and brimming with tears. “Mom… I didn’t mean it like that…”
The moment she spoke, tears flowed uncontrollably down her face.
Ben scolded her, “Stop crying. Joshua is still fighting in there. It’s bad luck to cry now.”
Allison was too overwhelmed to pay attention to their squabble.
To Allison, every second dragged on endlessly, and each moment was sheer torment. Guilt, regret, anxiety, and fear smothered her, making her chest feel tight and her heart ache. It was as if she was drowning, gasping for
breath.
Time crawled by.
The sun started dipping below the horizon.
Finally, after what felt like forever, the doors to the emergency room swung open.
Rose was the first to rush over, her voice urgent. “Doctor, how’s my son?”
The others quickly gathered around, anxious for news.
Allison’s hands shook with nerves and her palms were slick with sweat. She was caught between hope and
dread.
The doctor removed his mask, his face weary but relieved. “The patient is out of the woods.”
Relief washed over everyone like a wave.
Allison’s tightly wound nerves began to relax if only a little.
Joshua was moved from the emergency room to the ICU. The doctor explained that to prevent any post–op infection, he’d need to stay under observation for a few more days.
With the burden lifted, Ray began piecing together the day’s events.
He turned to Ben, his gaze firm. “How did that woman get into the estate? Security’s supposed to be airtight. Did you find out anything?”
Ben suddenly remembered the barrage of calls he’d ignored in his earlier panic.
“I’ll look into it now.”
After making a call, Ben reported back, “She got in as Leo Reynolds’s plus–one. We checked the security footage, and she was wearing a mask, claiming she had a cold. Leo is part of the Reynolds family and since he brought her, the guards didn’t press her to take her mask off.”
“The Reynolds family?” Ray’s eyebrows knitted together.
Ben explained, “They said Leo’s been abroad for years and just got back. He had no idea about her obsession with Joshua.”

Ray’s eyes narrowed. “That sounds way too neat. There’s more going on here. Keep digging.”
“Understood.”
Javier had been holding in his anger while Joshua was in danger. Now that Joshua was stable, he finally let
loose.
His voice rose, “What’s the story with Joshua’s stalker? Our family never did anything to her, but she resorts to kidnapping and stabbing. It’s outrageous!”
The room went silent before Ray turned his sharp gaze to Allison.
“Allison, what went down on the rooftop? How did Joshua get hurt?”
