Chapter 17
When Nathan got home, he immediately noticed something different in the way his parents looked at him. It was hard to put into words. It was mostly concern, mixed with a hint of
curiosity.
“Sweetheart, are you hungry?” Viola suddenly jumped up from the couch.
Meanwhile, Nicholas pretended to be reading the newspaper.
However, Nathan noticed the newspaper was upside down, and yet he acted like he was deeply
interested.
Nathan couldn’t help but laugh. “Alright, you two. You just want to know how I did on the exams, right? The exam papers are in my backpack. Go ahead and take a look.”
His parents dropped the act. They quickly grabbed his backpack and pulled out the exam
papers.
This was a classic example of a household with a student in senior year.
In fact, Viola and Nicholas cared more about Nathan’s exam results than Nathan himself.
“Hanvian, 101. Nathan, this is average, not as good as the last exams,” Nicholas mumbled as he scanned the papers, while Viola frowned as well.
But when they got to his math papers, both of them widened their eyes in shock.
“A perfect score in math? Am I seeing this right?” Nicholas exclaimed.
Viola couldn’t believe it either. She gave Nicholas a sharp pinch, making him wince and hiss in
pain.
“It’s not a dream, is it? Sweetheart, did you really get a perfect score in math ? Viels looking at Nathan.
Nathan smiled but didn’t say anything.
His parents continued to look at his science and Buranic exam papers.
Science, 274. Euranic, 133.
asked,
Their expressions shifted several times in just a few moments. First, they were in disbelief, then hesitant acceptance. Finally, they could hardly contain their excitement.
Nicholas pulled out his phone, opened the calculator, and quickly added up Nathan’s total score. He showed it to Viola.
“He scored 658 points! Oh my goodness, sweetheart, you did so well.” Viola’s voice trembled
with excitement.
Nathan’s results usually hovered just above the top–tier university admission cutoff, so his parents never had any unrealistic expectations. They just hoped he’d perform steadily in the college entrance exams and not fall into the second–tier range.
But now, his score far exceeded their hopes.
Viola looked at Nicholas, stammering, “H–Honey, what was the cutoff score for Northpeak University in Spicariver last year?
Nicholas scratched his head, unsure. “I think it was 656.”
Tears welled up in Viola’s eyes. “Sweetheart, you can get into Northpeak University.”
Nicholas was just as thrilled. “It’s like Lady Luck is smiling down on us!”
Nathan found their reactions both amusing and heartwarming.
