The preparations for the wedding were already flawless.
Sarah and Matt donned their wedding attire, standing at the front, radiating happiness.
Before long, a short man with a round face. approached Sarah, grinning widely.
“Sarah, congratulations! After all this time, your long–distance romance has finally reached its destination!”
Sarah, initially looking a bit awkward, suddenly brightened with a smile and joked, “What are you talking about? Our wedding is just the beginning of our happiness, boss.”

His face was so full it quivered when he laughed.
“Where’s Kelly? I haven’t seen her in ages!”
Sarah stood there awkwardly, glancing for help at Matt.
Seeing he had no intention of stepping in, she reluctantly spoke up, “Kelly hasn’t been feeling well. She probably won’t make it today. It’s unfortunate, but health is the most important thing!”
I didn’t know if Sarah felt any fear in her heart when she said those words.
The fat boss wouldn’t show her any mercy, his laughter causing tears to spill from his eyes as he patted his beer belly.

“Really? Don’t tell me you’re afraid she’ll ruin your wedding and that you’ve tied her up in some remote place! Hahaha!”
With that, he didn’t wait for Sarah to respond and wobbled off toward the wedding party.
After graduating from college, I had worked hard to receive the coveted job offer, and the boss was none other than the blunt, overweight man at the wedding.
During that time, I was incredibly diligent, never allowing myself a moment’s rest, and before long, I was promoted.
But on the day of my promotion, Sarah had leveraged my parents‘ connections and was pushed into our company.

I could never escape the nightmare of my childhood.
Sarah no longer pretended to be nice; instead, she had ripped off the mask and openly confronted me.
She called me into her private office, smirking as she flaunted her success.
“Kelly, can you believe it? In order to become your boss, I had to sweet–talk Mom and Dad for a really long time!”
In that moment, the last thread of sanity in my mind snapped.
I picked up the steaming cup of tea on the table and, without a hint of hesitation, splashed it on Sarah.

Her scream instantly drew the attention of everyone in the company.
I thought that my only act of defiance would bring me endless satisfaction, but the
outcome was that I was demoted, harshly scolded by my parents, and beaten by my brother.
Sarah’s face was burned, and my own face was swollen from Allen’s blows, looking like a pig’s head.
I had always felt like a fool, stupid and ridiculous throughout my life.
My parents spent exorbitant amounts on medical bills just to preserve Sarah’s smooth, delicate face.
Meanwhile, I was left in a regular hospital

If it hadn’t been for Sarah’s request, I wouldn’t even have qualified to be admitted to the hospital.
It seemed I had to thank her.
Even so, when she was in danger, I still rushed forward uncontrollably to protect her.
I felt like an NPC.
Kindness, too, was a kind of shackle.
