Chapter 33
As we waited for the car, we were quite relaxed. After dinner, I felt a bit better,
Meanwhile, Chloe had become even more excited. She couldn’t stop praising and showering Tristan with compliments while we were at the table.
Her enthusiasm embarrassed me to no end.
Chloe giggled and pumped her fist. “It feels amazing! Wyn, don’t you feel great? That arrogant Jameson finally got what he deserved!
“You should’ve seen his face. He was so furious that his nostrils looked like they were practically smoking.”
I absentmindedly hummed in agreement.
Chloe said, “Wyn, you should really hold onto this big catch. He’s much more reliable than Jameson, and his family is incredibly wealthy.”
I felt my face flush. “What are you talking about? How could I possibly be good enough for him? Stop saying that. He’ll be here any minute.”
Chloe waved me off dismissively. “Why not? You’re the esteemed Ms. Lambert, after all.”
“Ah, aren’t you Ms. Lambert? What are you doing standing here? Are you waiting for someone?”
A young man in a flashy shirt and a carefree demeanor approached with a stylishly dressed group of men and women.
I spotted a few flashy limited–edition sports cars parked in the driveway as more people began
to step out.
A slight frown creased my face as I looked at the young man who had greeted us.
Chloe glanced at him and said, “That’s Ethan Hart. He’s a spoiled brat who hangs out with Jameson. He’s part of Natasha’s crowd. Let’s just ignore him. His mouth is like a sewer.”
Ethan jingled his car keys as he walked over.
He looked me up and down, and his eyes widened in surprise. “Wow, Ms. Lambert, you’re dressed pretty plainly today. You should’ve done this sooner. All that heavy makeup you used to wear was so tacky,” he bluntly criticized my outfit.
I had a doctor’s appointment today, so I hadn’t bothered to dress up. Besides, most of my nice clothes were at Jameson’s place. I didn’t even wear any decent jewelry because I just didn’t have any.
When I didn’t respond, Ethan looked even more amused. “Hey, Wynonna, are you free
tonight? Let’s go to Regal Heights for some drinks. Jameson will be there too.”
I frowned and replied, “I’m not going.”
Ethan was taken aback. “You’re not going? Didn’t you usually beg me to take you out? Did you forget? You even used to top up my account with 100 thousand dollars just to get a bottle of Noir Sparkle ”
I glanced at Chloe. She probably didn’t expect me to have gone to such lengths to please someone like Ethan just because of Jameson.
Chloe snapped at them, defending me, “Wyn said she’s not going, so she’s not going. Just go and have your fun without her. Why do you have to drag her along just to make her pick up your tab again?”
Ethan looked momentarily taken aback, but then he smiled casually. “Come on. Why are you being so harsh? And making her pick up the tab? Heh… Wynonna, have I ever made you pay?”
I looked at his malicious smile and felt a wave of disgust wash over me.
Of course 1 had been the one footing the bill. And likely more than once too, which explained why Ethan had the audacity to ask me out for drinks again.
Drinking was merely an excuse. Getting me to pay was the real goal.
The thought made my stomach churn.
“Ethan, I’m really sorry, but I’m on medication right now. I can’t go.”
Ethan and the people behind him laughed in varying pitches. Some even exchanged glances as they looked at me like I was a fool.
I ignored their taunts and pulled Chloe along. “Let’s get out of here.”
Chloe was just as eager to escape as I was, and she quickly dragged me toward the parking lot
Ethan called after us, “Hey, wait! I’m not done talking yet. Wynonna, why are you running off? I’m not going to bite. I promise I’m being serious. Jameson has invited us out for some drinks tonight, and I have the WhatsApp chat to prove it.”
I didn’t look back and just kept walking.
Noticing my determination, Ethan scoffed. “Wow, she’s really running away. That’s funny. Before, she used to beg to come with me to see Jameson, and I stood her up a few times. It looks like she’s holding a grudge.”
