Chapter 55
The apartment was located in the prime area of Cranbel Central Business District. There was a hospital, bank, and supermarket right downstairs, making it incredibly convenient.
More importantly, the interior of the apartment was exactly my style–modern and sleek. Most of the furniture looked brand new and the design was very stylish.
After wandering around for a while, I lay on the huge bed and phoned Chloe. However, the line. was busy.
Just then, my phone rang. It was Tristan.
I quickly answered. “Hello?”
His voice came through the line clearly. “I heard from Mr. Craswell that you’ve set your eye on the luxury apartment?”
“Yeah, I really like this place! The location is really convenient too. I don’t even need to order takeout if I get hungry in the middle of the night. There’s a restaurant just a short walk away.
I asked, “Tristan, could I rent this place from you? I have enough money to pay the rent.“.
Tristan paused briefly before finally answering, “Rent? What are you talking about? Just there!”
“I can pay…” Before I could finish, he cut me off,
ust stay
“Don’t worry about it. Just stay there until everything’s settled,” he said firmly, leaving no room for argument. “If your brother knew that I was charging you, he’d stop talking to me.
Hearing him mention Charles made me cautious. I asked softly, “Do you really think my brother will come and meet me?”
Tristan fell silent for a brief moment before responding, “Yes.”
I let out a sigh of relief.
Even though I wasn’t sure if he was just comforting me, I still held on to a bit of hope.
“Are you free tonight? Let me take you out for dinner to celebrate your new place,” Tristan said in a calm voice.
I chuckled. “My new place?”
“Yes, you’re the first person to live there,” he replied, a hint of amusement in his tone.
His words left me speechless.
I glanced around and noticed that some of the furniture still had its plastic wrap on it.
I was surprised.
“Tristan, is this your apartment? It feels a little inappropriate for me to stay here. What if I mess it up…”
Tristan chuckled softly. “Don’t be silly. I’ll pick you up at 7:00 pm.
With that, he ended the call.
I had a vague sense that something wasn’t right. However, I couldn’t seem to put my finger on what it was. I just felt a little uneasy.
Nevertheless, the apartment was perfect. It was everything I had ever dreamed of.
In the end, my liking for the apartment outweighed the uneasiness, so I began unpacking and decorating my room.
After a while, Nigel arrived. He helped me move all my belongings, including the things I had retrieved from the Zook residence.
The boxes of luxury goods began to pile up, leaving me a bit overwhelmed.
Suddenly, I spotted a black bag in the corner. I recalled that I might have put it in the car without noticing the other day.
A wave of discomfort hit me the moment I saw it. Without hesitation, I picked up the bag, rushed downstairs, and forcefully tossed it into the “non–recyclable waste” bin.
As soon as the lid slammed shut, I gagged.
Those days of groveling at Jameson’s feet were over. I was done being the foolish person I
once was.
Suddenly, my phone rang. It was an unknown number. I frowned.
After a moment, I still decided to pick up the phone.
“Hey, it’s me.” Jameson’s voice echoed from the phone. He sounded tired and worn out.
My first instinct was to hang up the phone and block him immediately.
“Don’t hang up. I’ve got something I need to talk to you about.”
I suppressed my anger and asked coldly, “What is it, Mr. Brown?“.
There was a long pause on the other end. So long, in fact, that I was starting to lose my patience.
