Chapter 19
Luther’s POV
I finished with Marina and headed back to my room. It was yet another eventful night with me thrusting deeper inside of her, happily enjoying my time with her and finally, not having to feel guilty that I was not her mate.
I closed the door and tightened the rope of my robe.
Eventful it was.
“Luther, where are you coming from?” A familiar voice crept up on me, it almost sent chills down my spine.
I spiraled and faced the figure leaned by a door behind me. She had crossed her arms and wore a mean expression.
“Why are you coming out of her room by this time of the night?” Bertha repeated her question.
“I went to talk to her.” Was the best lie that could come out of my head. I gave myself an imaginary slap to the forehead. Surely, I could do better.
“Bertha… why aren’t you asleep?” I was hoping to evade the question.
Bertha was smart or at least experienced. She raised an eyebrow at me. “What did you talk to her about?”
“That is not the case. I am alpha after all and I needed to discuss some important stuff with her.”
Her eyes seized me from my head to my toe and then sighed, “You went to talk to her about important things with this? A robe? And you’re dripping wet from your body as though you just had a shower. You don’t expect me to believe that.”
I felt like I was being interrogated at a police station. She held a steady glare at me, her eyes felt like they could penetrate my soul.
“Go back to sleep, Bertha, goodnight.”
I shifted my gaze back to where I was headed and continued walking.
“I’ve been with you for so long, Luther. Why would you choose her over me?”
She blocked me off when I turned to my door. She pulled my robe by the collar and dragged me to her level.
“Bertha, let go of my robe or you’re going to regret it.”
She knew well enough what I was capable of and decided to let my collar go.
I straightened my shoulders and looked down into her eyes.
“If you ever do that again, I will cut off your hands, I promise.”
“I’m sorry, Alpha.” She apologized.
Because of what she had done, I felt no need to explain anything to her.
I pressed on my door handle and closed the door.
I went back inside and cleaned up. I felt light, relieved, and happy. It felt good.
I went to bed feeling great and awoke with a beautiful smile. It was the day for a meeting of the Alphas in the pack.
I was required to take a date to the pack meeting and I could not pick between taking Marina to the meeting or Bertha.
Bertha was a far better option. Her father was in my elder’s clan. Her mother was important as well and being mated to her, would mean I would have a sure place in the pack. It would bring me connections and a good network.
But with Marina…
Marina made me happy, excited, and calm. Looking at her face was one way to make me ejaculate. Her body was flawless and she was young.
Pick one.
I decided. Bertha would make a great pick and so I went to her room.
She was not present.
“Where are you?” I placed my phone on my car.

Chapter 19
She cleared her throat and said, “I’m home.”
Why?
“Since you’re not accepting of my love, I decided to go home. I can not stand the shame.”
I could hear tears in her voice.
I couldn’t stop myself from rolling my eyes. “I’m sorry. Come home.”
“You don’t want me. You left me for her. She means so much to you that you left me. She slurred her words and sobbed more.
“I am sorry. I didn’t mean to. She seduced me and that was the end of it. It is you I like–“, the words felt annoying to say.
“I mean, I love you. Please come back. We have an event to attend this evening.”
She hung up. A few minutes later, I looked out the window and found her car in my yard.
She was dressed in a beautiful red dress and red bottom heels.
Her hair was wrapped up in a bun and she had a little handbag on her shoulder.
Our eyes met when she looked up.
She waved.
“Come up,” I beckoned her to come and then turned around. I was headed to the closet and still had to pick my dress.
A knock came on the door.
“Come in.” The door hinges squeaked and it widened to accommodate her size. She slid through.
“Good morning Luther.” She reached into me and kissed me on the cheek. “How are you doing?”
Her imprint on my cheek felt greasy. The red lipstick stained my cheek and itched me.
Her presence annoyed me. Her scent disgusted me. I needed to hold my breath to be with her.
“I’m fine,” I turned to her and smiled. I placed a kiss on her forehead. “You’re ready.”
She nodded.
“Good. Sit there.” I nudged her to the bedside.
She shook her head with a mischievous smile. “I want something to calm me down.”
“Calm you down? What do you need?” I was getting on with what she meant.
“I was thinking about…” and then, she looked down at my nudge in my pants.
She groped me in the nuts swiped her tongue on her lower lip and then winked at me.
“What do you say?”
I shook my head. “I am not interested. I have things I want to do and we have to get to the event early.”
Her pleading eyes wanted me to agree. “I didn’t want to.”
She groped me again, this time a sob was in motion.
I was getting fed up.
“Alright, I will.” I dipped my hands into my trousers and dragged them down.
We were meant to do it anyway. We undressed ourselves and got on the bed when the door swung open.
“Alpha.”
Marina stood with a tray of food in her hand, staring at me.
Her mouth opened wide.
“What are you doing?”
