My Alpha Mate 20

My Alpha Mate 20

Chapter 20

Luther’s POV

I jolted with my cock swinging outside.

“Marina. What are you doing here?”

She backed away, retracting as she retraced her steps to the door and attempted to close the door.

I stuck my finger in between. “Wait!”

I stopped the door and opened it again.

Bertha held me back, she had anger on her forehead, “And where do you think you were going?”

I was stuck between two women, looking stupid.

Never had I been in that situation before. I needed to solve it immediately.

I slapped her hands off my wrist and adjusted my pants.

“Come inside now.”

Marina came back inside.

“First of all. Never come into my room unannounced,” I corrected Marina with an angry gaze.

She lowered her head.

“Bertha, excuse us.” She scoffed. “Why should I go, she’s the one to go.”

She was right. Asking her to leave, would mean I was making her look far more important than Bertha.

A common omega. I refused to do that.

“Marina. Drop the food on the table and then get out.”

Bertha’s face lit up with brightness. It made her happy to put Marina down.

Marina did as she was told and turned to leave. I had my eyes on her and for a split second, I swear I could see her eyes get wet.

It broke my wolf a little to see her cry but I could not look vulnerable.

The door closed and Bertha turned to me with her hand folded on her breast.

“I thought you would pick her over me, I’m glad you picked me instead.”

As if my erection had died immediately. I said nothing and grabbed my pants instead.

“Aren’t we going to have sex again?”

I stopped and gawked at her. “What kind of stupid question is that?”

At the event, I was congratulated as the best-performing alpha of the tribe. It was an award given only to the most diligent of Alphas.

I accepted the award and was required to come on stage to give a speech.

I was already on my way to give my speech when the host stopped me.

“Luther…” he called.

Everyone listened to him.

“Surely, you can not expect to receive an award without your mate. Bring her up here”.

The show was to premiere on international TV and I was sure everyone back home was watching— especially Marina.

A part of me did not want to do it.

“What are you waiting for?” He yelled happily and then started clapping. The crowd cheered with him as they started clapping for me.

I was forced to do it. I was unwilling but forced.

With a blank face, I walked back to the table I had been sitting on and grabbed Bertha by the hand.

I helped her up and guided her slowly to the stairs before we climbed up to the podium.

“Don’t you dare say a word.” I whispered to her as we walked. Bertha was like that. She was capable of turning things around in an instant so it could favor her.

Especially when it involved the presence of a woman, a rival.

I accepted the award and finished my speech, thanking everyone for loving me enough to hand me the award

The crowd cheered and I was about to hand the mic over when Bertha snatched it from my hand.

“What are you doing?” I whispered, subtly trying to get it back.

She stretched her hand to the other side and bent in that direction to talk.

“Is this thing on?” She tapped on it twice. The echo of the speakers caught everyone’s attention. “I guess it is.”

“Bertha, you better not make a fucking gimmick out of this. I will make you regret it, I swear,” I grabbed her arm from behind, where no one could see it.

The stage light was set on us and everyone had stopped talking and moving. Their eyes were on us.

“Do I have everyone’s attention?”

She left me and took a step to the side.

My heart started to race. All my attempts to take the microphone from her had failed and I was left feeling annoyed.

The camera panned to me and I was forced to smile.

“As you all know. The alpha has no mate and it has been this way for a while.”

‘Bertha, what are you doing?’

“We’ve been dating for a long while now and although we wanted to keep it secret, we have concluded that we shouldn’t keep this joyous information from you all.”

The crowd started to chatter. They mumbled about what they thought could be happening. Even I was confused as to where this was headed.

She turned, looked at me, and then smiled. “Should we tell them?”

I faked a smile. “Tell them what?” I spoke at the end of my mouth.

“That we are getting married a week from now.”

My jaw dropped and I felt a lump build in my throat.

The whole crowd gasped loudly. People began to clap.

I shook my head, attempting to drag the mich from her hand when her father stopped me.

“That is great news!” He came on stage. He reached his daughter and kissed her on the cheek before he came to me and shook my palm firmly.

He leaned in.

“I always knew you were going to do the right thing, I just didn’t know when. Thank goodness you’re ready now.”

The crowd went wild with cheers.

“The Alpha is getting married. Alpha Luther is getting married,’ they chanted.

I was left frozen in the moment, disbelieving in what had just happened. I needed to go home.

I needed to relax my head.

I needed to ‘cum.’

When I got home, Sean blocked me at the gate.

“Luther, I’m your best friend and I can not believe you didn’t tell me you were getting married to Bertha. I thought you said no secrets. Is that why you’ve been acting this way?”

He rambled on behind me while I hurriedly rushed to Marina’s room. I needed to see her.

I was losing my breath. I needed to see her.

I kicked the door down, expecting to see Marina lying in her bed, maybe, crying.

She wasn’t there.

The urge to have sex with her intensified even more. I needed to hold her.

“Where is she?”

Bree shook her head as she emerged from the bathroom door,” I haven’t seen her since morning.”
