Before Hudson could open his mouth, Leon plugged the USB into the screen with a smirk. “Watch this.”
One audio file. The voice made Hudson go ghost–white.
“Yeah, I’m coming clean. Montclair dropped half a mil for me to play psycho and stab his wife and kid. Wanted the boy dead for sure- said he needed to clear the way for his kid with Val, the one turning
eighteen…”
“Caught him telling the docs to take out his wife’s whole uterus when I went to get paid…”
Hudson’s head spun. He shoved Leon aside, checking the file date with shaking hands.
Three days ago.
He stumbled back.
Holy shit. Reese knew. She’d known everything.
She’d been planning to leave him all along.
He’d thought his plan was perfect.
Hudson felt sick imagining what that moment must have been like for her.
How had it all gone to hell?
This wasn’t the plan. He was supposed to set up Leon with the company, make things right with Val and
their kid, then spend forever making it up to Reese.
The room erupted in horrified whispers that grew into outraged voices.
“Now it makes sense – dude’s handing over his empire to his side piece’s kid!”
“Killed his wife’s baby for his mistress and secret son? And Val knew the whole time? That’s messed up.”
“Showing up to a kid’s funeral in freaking red, like ‘oh sorry, no time to change.‘ BS. She was just flexing on Reese. Karma’s gonna hit different.”
As the room turned on them, Val went paper–white, pulling her crying act. “Hudson, baby, they’re lying about us. Say something!”
But Hudson, her usual white knight, looked straight through her. He headed for the door, muttering like
