Chapter10
Alex was one of Chase’s personal assistants. He was stunned. He was one of the few who knew about Ashley and Chase’s relationship. Everyone knew Chase didn’t care much about his wife. He was distant, often working late. Ashley had joined the company to get closer to him. She wanted to be his personal assistant, but Chase refused, even with his grandmom’s. intervention. She became a regular assistant. Alex was worried she’d disrupt the team, but she was exceptional. She worked hard, never seeking special treatment, and rose to be the team lead. Alex appreciated her devotion. He was surprised she was leaving, and he didn’t think she’d do it villingly. She must have had a falling out with Chase and been forced to leave. “I see. I’ll find someone TO take over your work, Alex said professionally.
“Okay.”
Back at his desk, Alex called Chase to report his work. Near the end, he thought of Ashley.“By the way, Mr. Sterling, about…” He wanted to know when Chase wanted Ashley to leave, but Chase had said to handle her affairs according to company policy. Chase never cared or asked about. her. They’d considered promoting Ashley but they didn’t, considering Chase’s coldness towards her.
Hearing that, Chase frowned, “What is it?”
Alex recovered.“Nothing.” Since Chase knew about Ashley’s quitting and didn’t mention it, he didn’t have to ask. He could handle this by the book.
Chase ended the call.
“What are you thinking about?” a colleague asked.
Ashley shook her head, “Nothing.”
“No call for Sam today?”
“No.” It was a secret known in the office that she called Sam twice a day. They jsut didn’t know Sam’s father was their CEO.
