Seeing Ashley’s composure, Mark and Yonnie relaxed. Noticing their focus on Ashley, Tanya leaned over, whispering, “Don’t worry, Chase is here. She won’t cause any trouble.” If Ashley dared to create a scene, it would undoubtedly upset Sterling. Tanya knew Ashley wouldn’t risk that; any further provocation would only deepen Sterling’s dislike. Reassured, Yonnie eased his tension. Yet, he worried about Sterling being too kind to Tanya, fearing it might trigger Ashley.
gnoring their anxieties, Ashley wasn’t even paying them much attention, engaged as she was in conversation with Professor Davies, who had spotted her at the expo and made a point of greeting her. They had enjoyed a pleasant chat at a previous event and had been trying to find time to reconnect. Now that opportunity presented itself, and Davies wasn’t going to let it pass. So, soon after settling in, he engaged Ashley in conversation, keeping their voices low to avoid disturbing others. Tanya and the brothers assumed Ashley was consulting Davies on technical matters, not giving it another thought.
Someone at the table noticed and quipped, “Professor Davies, you really can’t help yourself, even during dinner you’re still talking shop!”
Another chimed in, “Right? He was chatting with Ms. Ashley for ages in the expo hall earlier! Davies laughed, unfazed. “When I try to discuss tech with you all, you shove me off on your engineers! Now
