Maria answered. “Sam should be fine. He went to bed late last night and slept in. I’ll check on him and call you back.”
Ashley relaxed.“Thank you.”
When Maria went upstairs, Sam was in the bathroom. Maria asked him about the phone call, he mumbled, “I touched it by mistake.” Maria left to call Ashley. Sam scoffed, his mood improving Ashley was relieved. But being woken up, she couldn’t get back to sleep. She was tired when she
ent to work.
Chase had never opened the envelope with the divorce papers after taking Tanya’s call. On the day of their return, he went downstairs after packing.“Okay, let’s go.” The Lincoln stretched away from the villa, heading to the airport.
Ashley didn’t know they were returning. No one told her. She’d been living alone for two weeks and had grown to enjoy it.
It was a weekend. She woke up late, opened the curtains, stretched, and watered her plants. When she was about to make breakfast, the doorbell rang. It was Mrs. Zhao, her neighbor. “Sorry to bother yo
you, Ashley.”
Ashley smiled. “It’s okay, I’m up.”
“Good,” Mrs. Zhao said warmly.“I made some dumplings. I wanted to thank you for saving Kelly. from that dog. We’ve been so busy lately that we haven’t had time to thank you properly. I hope you won’t mind…”
“Don’t be so polite, Mrs. Zhao.”
After some pleasantries, Mrs. Zhao left. Ashley ate breakfast and reviewed the VR algorithm she was working on.
