Chapter223
Grandma Lin sighed.“Ashley, you know the state of your relationship with Chase. Why force yourself to be with someone who doesn’t love you? A divorce will allow you to start over. Grandma is…”
“You’re going to say you’re doing this for my own good, aren’t you?” Ashley interrupted, fixing her gaze on both women.“You’ve said these empty words of concern so many times, aren’t you tired of them? You don’t even bother coming up with new lines. How am I supposed to believe you? Maybe next time, try a fresh script?”
efore they could respond, she continued, “But it probably wouldn’t work. Empty words mean nothing; actions speak louder than words, right?”
Grandma Lin and Vivian were taken aback. Grandma Lin was about to speak, but Ashley interrupted again, turning to Mr. Fan who’d rejoined them.“Mr. Fan, are you finished? Shall we leave?”
Mr. Fan had noticed the strained atmosphere. He chuckled awkwardly.“Yes, of course.” He then addressed Grandma Lin and Vivian.“Madam Lin, Mrs. Lin, we shall take our leave.” Grandma Lin nodded with a smile, but sighed again when looking at Ashley. Ever since Yonnie wanted to divorce her mother, whenever Ashley went against their wishes, they’d sigh, as if she were disobedient and troublesome, the cause of all their problems. This had led to a stress, response in Ashley after the divorce; she feared their disapproval and sighs, becoming overly compliant and self–effacing until she was twelve or thirteen, even though everyone in the Rong family treated her well.
