The next day, XunDu needed their assistance. Ashley and Tim went there in the afternoon. After a brief technical discussion, Ren Jifeng and Yao Xinho entered, escorted by XunDu staff. They were surprised to see Ashley.
Yao Xinbo raised an eyebrow.“She’s a XunDu employee? What a coincidence!” Ren Jifeng shrugged. He barely knew her; how would he know her employment status? A XunDu employee, sensing their discussion, clarified, “You mean Ms. Mond? She’s not a XunDu employee. She’s with ChangMo, here to help with system issues.” Noticing the attention, Ashley glanced up. Recognizing Ren Jifeng and Yao Xinbo as the men from the auction who had made snide remarks, she gave them a fleeting look before returning to her work.
Yao Xinbo chuckled.“Wow, she’s ignoring us.”
Ren Jifeng had lost interest. Before he could speak, Tanya entered. She paused, surprised to see them.
“Ms. Lin,” Ren Jifeng said, his tone far warmer than his earlier conversation with Yao Xinbo about Ashley.
Tanya nodded curtly.“Mr. Ren, Mr. Yao.”
Ren Jifeng approached her.“Ms. Lin works at XunDu?”
“No,” she replied.“I specialize in algorithms. I’m here to learn.”
While a native of the city, Ren Jifeng rarely stayed. He’d only recently returned. Since meeting Tanya, he’d heard much about her. She was exceptionally intelligent, having graduated from a top–tier university at eighteen and earning a doctorate. An impressive resume.
