Justin’s face turned cold.“Ashley, be professional! Don’t you know who’s the boss?!” Ashley picked up her bag, “If you’re unhappy, fire me.”
“You…” He knew she’d resigned. He was trusted by Chase, but he couldn’t fire her–Chase’s grandmother, Emily Sterling, loved her. If she complained to Emily about him, he might be the one who got fired.
Ashley left.
Justin stormed
off. Alex saw him,
asking, “What
happened?”
Justin told him the whole thing. Alex was surprised, because he knew Ashley well. “This isn’t like her. Is there a misunderstanding?”
“No, that’s exactly the word she used. I’m just quoting here.”
Alex thought for a while, saying, “Maybe because she’s leaving?” But she was still working hard.
Chase approached.“What’s going on?”
“Ashley left without finishing her work.”
“If you’re unhappy, fire her.”
Chase clearly didn’t care. Alex and Justin were stunned. It wasn’t about his indifference. The point was, he seemed to not know Ashley had resigned! They’d thought he wanted her to leave!
They were about to speak when Chase’s phone rang. It was from Tanya. He walked towards the elevator, answering, “I’m off work now, I’ll be there soon…”
Alex and Justin exchanged glances.
“He might have forgotten that?”
