Ashley explained, “I usually sleep well. We went camping last night; I’m not used to sleeping outdoors.”
The butler frowned.“Camping in winter? Don’t catch a cold!”
Ashley smiled.“You can have snowball fights, build snowmen, play hide–and–seek… It’s a lot of fun.”
Everyone else had seemed to enjoy the trip. She was slightly envious.
Chase, lowering his newspaper, looked thoughtfully at her. Sam, however, was irritated. Her mother hadn’t comforted her last time, and now she’d missed the fun camping trip! She huffed and ran upstairs. Ashley frowned, but Chase said calmly, “Sam, come back.” His tone was even, but she stopped. She pouted, returning, but not to Ashley. Clinging to Chase, she said, “Daddy, come too, okay?”
