Just then, she sneezed. Both grandmothers immediately asked if she was alright, worried she’d caught a cold.
She wiped her nose.“Probably.” She had likely caught a chill, though less severely than Dandan. The two grandmothers, longtime friends, chatted happily, and Ashley didn’t mention the events at the birthday banquet or Chase and Tanya.
Later, Cindy called, saying she’d run into Chase and the Lin family again–he was having dinner ith them.“Why does this always happen to me?!” she exclaimed, asking for Ashley’s location. “At my grandmother’s.”
“You came alone?”
“With Sam and Grandma Feng.”
Cindy understood.“So, he’s not with you, but with the Lins?”
Ashley didn’t reply. She sneezed again. Ashley’s aunt, He Mingxue, worried she had a cold, made her ginger tea. Ashley felt even worse and fell asleep.
She awoke with a high fever, her head throbbing. Sam looked concerned.“Mommy, you’re sick?”
“Mm–hmm.”
Mrs. Feng wanted to take her back to the Feng family mansion to see their family doctor. Mrs. Sterling agreed; it was best not to delay treatment.
