Chapter 296
“And she didn’t react to you
wanting custody of Sam?
That’s
strange.”
Chase paused.“Mm–hmm.”
“She doesn’t want custody? Impossible! Sam is her world!” Ethan suddenly asked, “Did you discuss custody beforehand?”
Chase’s eyes darkened. He paused.“No, we didn’t.”
What the hell?!” Ethan was baffled.
Just then, Mrs. Feng arrived.“Dinner’s ready. Ashley’s downstairs. Why are you two still here? Come eat.”
Ethan snapped out of it.“Okay, coming!”
Chase also stood. Downstairs, Sam was happily chatting with Ashley, a picture of mother–daughter bonding. But Ethan found it unsettling, considering Ashley readily gave up custody.
Mrs. Feng, unaware of the divorce, called them to dinner. They responded simultaneously. Sam held Ashley’s hand, walking happily to the dining room.
Ethan sat next to Chase. Ashley and Sam sat together. Mrs. Feng said, “Yu’ming, it’s been a while! I had them make your favorite dishes.”
Ethan laughed, “Grandma, I’ll take all the meat!”
Ashley carefully served Sam, removing fish bones. At first glance, it seemed normal. But Ethan watched closely.
Ashley gave him a cold look. He paused. In the past, she’d tried to bond with him and Zark, but they’d ignored her. She’d always been polite and cheerful. Now, her gaze was cold, like that of a stranger. He realized she looked at Sam similarly–gentle, but without the same love. It was cold. Was this an act? To win Chase back? He looked at Chase, who was indeed watching Ashley, without looking away. This was unlike him.
Ethan scoffed. He knew it.
Mrs. Feng coughed.“Yu’ming, what are you looking at?” She noticed his intense gaze. He quickly said, “Grandma, I noticed Sister–in–law is unusually quiet and doesn’t interact with Chase. It’s strange.”
