“I called Mommy yesterday, wanting her to make dinner, but she didn’t answer. I called twice more, and then it said her phone was off.”
“She probably turned it off,” Chase said.
“Oh? No battery?”
He didn’t confirm or deny.“Maybe.”
“What do I do? I want to go skiing; Mommy promised to take me if she was free.” She’d wanted visit Tanya but couldn’t; now, with Tanya recovering, she wanted to ski with her mother. But her mother wasn’t answering.
“Call later. She’ll probably turn it back on.”
Sam mumbled, “Okay…”
Ashley wouldn’t leave her phone off; she had things to discuss with Tim and expected a call from Lawyer Pei. After half an hour, she turned it back on. Sam called immediately. Ashley ignored it, working on her paper. Sam, seeing her father preparing to leave, asked him to call her mother.
