Tim happily pounded the table.“Yes!” Ashley laughed. He then grew quiet, looking at Ashley.“Do you think Chase will reach out?” Their companies competed but could collaborate. He’d previously collaborated on a language system.
Ashley said calmly, “I don’t know. But let’s prioritize the project, putting aside personal feelings.” “I know.” He didn’t act rashly when it mattered. He was anticipating Chase’s call, but it didn’t come. He received several more calls from potential investors but none from Chase. Near the end of the workday, he received a call from an unknown number. He answered. The voice said, “Mr. Reed? This is Yonnie, Tanya’s father.”
Tim stopped, holding the phone away.“Yonnie,” he told Ashley.
She didn’t speak. He understood; they could overlook personal feelings with others, but not the Lins.
He resumed the call, his voice pleasant but his eyes cold.“Mr. Lin, what can I do for you?” Yonnie was also seeking collaboration. Tim said, “I understand. If it’s suitable, we’ll consider your proposal. Please rest assured.”
Yonnie, not a fool, knew Tim’s response was evasive. He tried to arrange dinner, but Tim hung up, citing other commitments.

Ashley’s mood wasn’t as bad as he thought. She’d let go of many things. She was no longer easily swayed. She held the cards. She had nothing to worry about. She smiled.“Thank you, Shixiong.” They left together.
