Zark, observing this exchange, instantly understood the connection between Tim’s reluctance to work with Ren Jifeng and Ashley. He wisely chose not to probe further.“I also have a new proposal,” he smoothly said, “Would you and Mrs. Sterling be free for dinner next Monday, Mr. Reed?”
Zark and Tanya’s close relationship with Chase wouldn’t automatically guarantee Tim’s acceptance, even if Zark’s proposal was exceptional. But the invitation that included Ashley lightly improved his opinion of Zark.
Still, he remained professional.“Monday? I’m not sure yet. If I’m available, I’ll contact you. Rest assured, Mr. He.”
Zark wasn’t fazed.“I appreciate that, Mr. Reed.”
As he finished speaking, the emcee stepped onto the stage. The hosts of the gala, hand–in–hand, took to the dance floor to a burst of applause and music. Guests soon followed suit. Many stunning debutantes graced the ballroom that evening.
Tim’s words had barely faded when a striking heiress approached Zark.“Mr. He, may I have this dance?”
