Ashley hesitated. “I’ll use my phone and send you the video later.”
He didn’t insist.
Chase held Sam, joining the other parents around the chairs. Ashley stood, started recording, focusing on Chase and Sam. Chase glanced at her, smiling. Ashley froze.
The music started. Chase, with a relaxed smile, moved with the other parents. When the music stopped, he easily secured a chair for himself and Sam. Sam, thrilled, waved to Ashley.“Mommy,
e got a chair!”
Ashley responded,“I see!”
When reviewing the event schedule, Ashley had expected Chase and Sam to find the games boring. But Sam had been excited just being held by Chase. Winning made her even happier. Chase smiled, looking at Ashley. Initially, she’d noticed his lack of enthusiasm. However, the upbeat music and competitive spirit seemed to draw him in; he was enjoying himself. He was quick–witted, securing victory after several rounds.
Sam excitedly ran to Ashley for a high–five.“Mommy, we won!”
Ashley high–fived her.“Yes!”
Chase approached.“Did you get it all?”
“Yes,” Ashley replied, sending him the video.
Next was the “Human Wheelbarrow Race.” Four families formed a team, rotating a large circular band while walking

won.
Chase looked at Ashley. “Your turn this time?”
Sam nodded eagerly. “Mommy, you’ll play with me this time!”
Ashley agreed.“Okay.”
As the game started, Ashley paused, looking at her bag. Chase offered his hand.“Let me take that.” “…Thank you.” Ashley handed him her bag.
While husbands carrying their wives‘ bags was common, this was a first for them. Ashley didn’t know if he’d ever carried a bag for Tanya. He wasn’t dressed as formally as usual, but holding her bag didn’t seem out of place. To a stranger, it might have even looked like he was patiently waiting for his beloved.
