Chapter 348
Chase repeated the question, “You or me?”
Ashley looked at Sam.“Sam, you decide.”
“Daddy,” Sam said.“Mommy doesn’t play basketball very well, but Daddy is really good.” Ashley “did” play basketball. She didn’t correct her. Since Sam had decided, she said, “You go.” “Okay.” Chase took off his long black coat.“Hold this for me.”
shley silently accepted the coat and laid it on the grass.
Chase raised an eyebrow but said nothing. Just before the game started, he said, “When you’re filming later, follow our movements. Don’t just stand in one place.”
“Right,” Ashley replied.
The “Ant Race” rules: Parents used a rope to create a circle and walked forward, dribbling a ball inside the circle. At the turning point, the child pulled the rope, and the adult dribbled. The ball couldn’t leave the circle.
Ashley had taken Sam to play basketball and volleyball, but Sam hadn’t shown much interest. Now, whether it was from school or from Chase, Sam’s dribbling skills were impressive. Chase and Sam were perfectly synchronized, completing the first round smoothly. The return trip was
even easier.
Sam had said Chase was a good basketball player. She was right. He effortlessly spun the ball between his hands. His movements were elegant and effortless as he effortlessly kept pace with Sam. Ashley heard gasps around them.“So cool.”
Despite her steady hands as she filmed, the memories of him playing basketball on the school court flooded her mind. A few months ago, those memories had been vivid. Now, looking at the taller, more mature, and handsome Chase, those memories felt hazy.
