Mitch just couldn’t stand being accused of lying. Lily’s comfort cheered him up. Sam stopped crying too. was likely Mitch had mistaken someone for his mother. Remembering Ashley’s praise for Kelly’s cuteness and their apparent familiarity, Sam reached into Chase’s pocket without wiping his tears.“Daddy, give me your phone.” Chase wiped his tears with his thumb and gave him his phone. He quickly dialed Ashley’s number.
Ashley had finished the movie and was playing games at an arcade. Seeing it was Chase, she hung up immediately,
Sam’s eyes were still wet.“Mommy didn’t answer,”
“She’s probably busy,” Chase said.“Let’s not bother her. Let me take you out to dinner tonight.”
Sam thought Chase believed Mitch got the wrong person. Relieved, he said, “Can we ask Aunt Tanya to join us?”
Chase smiled.“Okay,”
Cheerful, Sam got down, returning to his puzzle. Chase returned to the living room.
Alex asked, “All settled?”
“Yes.”
The guests, who had seen Sam for the first time, were surprised. One said, “That’s Chase’s child? So, he’s been married for a long time?”
Rumors about Chase having a child had circulated, but they’d dismissed them. Now they knew it
was true.
Chase took a sip of tea.“Yes.”
The others chuckled awkwardly. They’d brought their daughters here, hoping to introduce her to Chase. However, Chase was already married. Their daughters were beautiful, gentle, and quiet, but Chase hadn’t looked at them. He was clearly uninterested.
After half an hour at the arcade, Zark and Betty left. Ashley had been working on a paper before coming here. It was almost finished; she would send it to Burke for review before submitting it.
She was playing a VR game alone, and she didn’t notice that someone was watching her.
Catherine sneered before leaving.
Half an hour later, Catherine was at the Mond family’s luxurious villa. She went upstairs and was surprised to see Ruby.“Mom? I thought you went shopping. Why are you here?”
“I’m back from shopping.” Their villa was nice, but not as grand as the one Chase bought for Vivian. So, Ruby often came here.
So did Catherine. She sat down, whispering mysteriously, “Guess who I saw at the arcade?”
Tanya was reading by the window. She knew the answer but wasn’t interested.
Ruby was intrigued.“You saw Ashley?”
“Yes!” Catherine munched on sunflower seeds.“She was alone, playing games. Poor thing, she looked so pathetic.”
