Mark’s family had already gone upstairs, so they didn’t see Tim. Tim turned to greet Brooks.
After the pleasantries, as they were about to head upstairs, Chase arrived. Seeing him, Brooks exclaimed, “Mr. Sterling!”
Chase saw Ashley and Tim, his expression unchanged. He smiled faintly as he shook hands with Brooks.“When did you come back?”
“I just got off the plane,” Brooks chuckled.“We should have dinner together some time. When are you free? Why don’t we just do it tonight-?”
Chase said, “I have a full schedule today. Let’s do it in a couple of days.”
“Okay, okay. That works too.”
Watching Chase and Brooks chat, Tim muttered under his breath,“Why do I feel like we can meet them everywhere?”
Ashley remained silent. It had been half a month since the last time she saw Chase. Even when she visited Emily last weekend, he wasn’t there.
Over the past ten days, Sam had called her several times, especially in the past three days. Probably because he was on winter vacation and Chase and Tanya didn’t have much time for him. Ashley didn’t answer his calls.
However, Chase kept his word. He must have spoken to Sam, because despite the unanswered calls, Sam hadn’t run to the Jones residence, sparing Ashley some trouble.
As Ashley thought that, Chase and Brooks had finished their conversation. They all got into the elevator. Noticing that Tim and Ashley weren’t talking to Chase, Brooks realized there might be some friction between them, his smile faltering.
Chase was looking at Ashley. She pursed her lips, meeting his dark gaze when she looked up.
Chase suddenly asked, “When will you
be free?”
Ashley looked away, her tone cold.“Never.”
Obviously, he asked that for Sam. It had only been a little over half a month since the last meeting, still more than ten days away from a month. She was too busy to take care of Sam.
Chase smiled, unfazed by her attitude.“The New Year’s is coming.”
Ashley paused, understanding what he meant. If she didn’t make time for Sam soon, then the New Year’s…
She’d been so busy that she’d forgotten it. But…
She said coldly, “I don’t mind missing a month.” She’d spent plenty of time with Sam last month; missing one month wouldn’t hurt.
Chase raised an eyebrow but said nothing.
Listening to their conversation, Brooks was stunned. He didn’t quite understand what they were saying, but…
The elevator dinged, announcing their arrival. Chase greeted Brooks before leaving. Only after the doors closed did Brooks ask, “Ms. Jones, you and Mr. Sterling are… a couple?”
Ashley said, “No.”

Brooks didn’t believe her, thinking that was just grief talking. He wanted to say that they looked quite well–matched, but his phone rang.
After dinner, Ashley and Tim went downstairs, only to encounter Chase and the Monds in the parking lot. Ashley and Tim heard Neal say to Chase,“Be good to my sister. If you bully her, I won’t let you off the hook!”
This was Neal’s first time meeting Chase in person. At first, seeing Chase’s imposing demeanor, he’d been hesitant to speak to him. But Chase had been extremely kind. After the meal, Neal was no longer afraid of him.
While he sounded tough, everyone knew he liked Chase.
Chase laughed.“Okay.”
Tanya smiled sweetly. It was a very loving scene.
Tim, however, sneered. Ashley showed no expression.
Brooks looked at Ashley in surprise.“So, you and Mr. Sterling aren’t a couple?” That beautiful woman was Chase’s real girlfriend?
Ashley calmly said, “No.”
Chase and Tanya noticed Ashley and Tim. Tim ignored them, saying to Brooks, “Please car.”

Brooks had already noticed the tension between Tim and Chase. He didn’t comment, nodded to Chase, and got
in the car. Ashley and Tim followed. Their car quickly disappeared from the parking lot.
