Ashley turned away; Charlie asked her for help, and she left, ignoring Chase. Ethan noticed her leaving. Tanya went to Mark; she wasn’t with Chase.
Ethan nudged Chase, gesturing towards Ashley, “Your wife’s here.”
Chase looked at Ashley, who was explaining a technical concept to Charlie and others. They were engrossed and didn’t notice them.
Ethan paused, “Who are those people with your wife? Is she explaining the core technology? Your
ife is amazing!
Chase continued watching Ashley silently. Ashley felt a gaze and looked over. Their eyes met across the distance. Ashley paused. She couldn’t see his expression clearly, but she noticed he seemed to… smile. Was he smiling at her? She probably imagined it.
Ethan noticed, asking, “Why are you smiling?”
Chase:“Nothing.”
Ethan didn’t dwell on it. Seeing Ashley’s calm demeanor, he raised an eyebrow. Was she playing games with Chase or being discreet? If the latter, she maintained distance from Chase to avoid revealing their relationship, as he didn’t want to publicly acknowledge their marriage. She was tactful.
Tanya approached, “What are you talking about?”
