Chapter 17
Three months later, we heard about Julian again.
This time, he was truly dead. A car accident, they said. I felt the color drain from my face and quickly left the room.
Messages flooded in:
[You heartless witch! Do you know what Julian’s been through? The drinking, the fighting- it was all because of you! How could you break his heart like this? Now he’s dead – crashed while driving drunk. Are you happy now?]
Along with other vicious curses. I handed these messages directly to the Harrington family lawyers. They filed police reports, and Sophie spent some time in jail, earning herself a criminal record.
But I barely paid attention to any of it. I was too busy choosing destinations for my honeymoon with Ash.
EPILOGUE: Ash’s Story
When did I fall for Olivia Montgomery?
In college. We attended the same university, and I fell for her at first sight.
Before meeting her, I’d thought love at first sight was ridiculous – until it happened to me.
Before I could tell her, my professor sent me abroad for research.
When I returned, I saw her again at a social gathering.
She had become my friend’s girlfriend. I knew her; she didn’t know me.
I still remember that day. She stood beside Julian, smiling softly as she introduced herself: “Hello everyone, I’m Julian’s girlfriend, Olivia Montgomery.”
In that moment, I wanted to forget every notion of friendship. But I couldn’t – they were already engaged. Olivia loved Julian, and I had to respect that.
I was a glutton for punishment, attending every social event where she might be present, just to see her.
A whole year of torture, until their wedding plans were announced. I finally decided to let go.
Then, the night before their wedding, at Julian’s bachelor party. He said he wasn’t ready to settle down.
And I knew – this was my chance.
